Well this should be interesting! Street Survivor: Keeping the Beat in Lynyrd Skynyrd Hardcover – October 17, 2017 by Artimus Pyle (Author), Dean Goodman (Author) Hardcover $29.99 Artimus Pyle, a Marine, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, and the "Wild Man" of southern rock, is one of the last surviving members of Lynyrd Skynyrd. He played drums with the band during its seventies heyday. He is the first bandmate to write about the tortuous rise and tragic fall of the Jacksonville hell raisers, offering detailed insights into the band's complex personalities and anthemic music. Packed with anecdotes of booze-fueled violence and destruction, Artimus' book also lays out the exquisite musicianship and sheer hard work that transformed Lynyrd Skynyrd into one of America's greatest rock 'n' roll bands. It all came to an end on October 20, 1977, when four shows into a world tour to promote its new album, Street Survivors , the band's rickety private plane ran out of gas just minutes from its destination, and crashed into a Mississippi swamp. Artimus survived but three of his comrades, including leader Ronnie Van Zant, did not. Artimus recounts every moment of that flight, as well as the days leading up to the crash, and the years of painful recovery. Remarkably, Artimus would encounter even greater challenges when he was falsely accused of horrific crimes. But Artimus is a survivor with a keen sense of humor, and he continues to perform Lynyrd Skynyrd music with just as much energy and precision as in his youth. "Street Survivor" boasts dozens of previously unpublished Lynyrd Skynyrd photos. ----------------------------------- Dean Goodman Biography Welcome to my groovy, sardonic, gossipy rock bio "Strange Days: The Adventures of a Grumpy Rock 'n' Roll Journalist in Los Angeles," which was nominated in the the nonfiction book category at the Los Angeles' Press Club's 2014 National Arts & Entertainment Awards. Learn more about the book at www.strangedaysbook.comAs for me, I live in Hollywood with my record collection and my wife. I was a journalist for 23 years, beginning as a business and political reporter in my native New Zealand when I was 19. I specialized in music and showbiz after I came to America in 1992. Find out more about me at www.deangoodman.com. I have interviewed hundreds of stars. Favorites, for various reasons, included Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, David Bowie, Ringo Starr, Neil Diamond, Robbie Robertson, Marianne Faithfull, Barry White, Carly Simon, Nancy Wilson, Maurice Gibb, Bob Seger, John Mellencamp, Solomon Burke, Isaac Hayes, Mark Knopfler, Gavin Rossdale, Tom Petty, Peter Gabriel, Jimmy Page, Roger Daltrey, Carly Simon, George Harrison, Mick Jones (both of them), Steve Cropper, Jeff Beck, Johnny Cash, and the guys in Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, the Sex Pistols, Stone Temple Pilots, Black Crowes, Soundgarden, Jane's Addiction, Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Anthrax, INXS, the Hives, Midnight Oil, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Metallica. At every opportunity I try to travel out of the USA. My favorite destinations include Oman, Iran, Ethiopia, Australia, Montenegro, Paraguay, South Korea and Nicaragua. Otherwise I hate leaving the house. I like sushi, the Rainbow Bar and Grill, rock 'n' roll memorabilia, swimming, violent movies, "Seinfeld" reruns and "Modern Family." I was fired from Reuters in the summer of 2011, after skating on thin ice for a few years in a messy tango with new management. I am now taking it easy, a bit bored, but trying to get started on a memoir with a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer. I love buying books, the reading bit not so much.

I wonder why the title change??? For years, decades even, Artimus has steadfastly said the title of his book was to be "The Best Seat In The House" meaning that for him as the band's drummer he always had the best seat in the house behind those drums playing for the band and he had the best view of the entire stage.
So I have to wonder if this is the book Artimus always wanted to put out, or if it is just a book he discussed things with the writer Dean Goodman to be his book?
During the time I knew Artimus he had already written or had written with his wife Kerri a great deal. Is all of that included in this book? Is this the long awaited Artimus Pyle tell all???
I have to wonder a bit right now until I actually read it.
This also now explains why Dean Goodman would not return any emails requesting information months ago... now I know why...

Maybe the title got changed to tie in with the 40th anniversary of the release of Street Survivors and the plane crash.
Hopefully, this will be a good book. It is on my list of books to get.

Wonder if Artimus decided to go the book route rather than his proposed movie? With Gary announcing his upcoming Skynyrd documentary, it would make sense.

Well I'll be adding this to the list of books to get and I'm definitely looking forward to reading this from Artimus's perspective!! ! With it being 40 years this year, I'm willing to guess there may be a lot that comes out that's Skynyrd related. Hopefully it doesn't get stuck in legal limbo anywhere. Also on a funnier note, we were picking a wedding date and I immediately suggested October 20th not thinking. Well it stuck for a bit until I realized I didn't want to get on a plane and fly to the Dominican to get married on October 20th...so it'll be somewhere around that date but I just can't on the 20th. Seems like it'd be disrespectful maybe or just not a good idea in general.

Anyone else preorder this? Looking forward to it a lot, actually. I see that it's pushed back to release in March, hopefully they'll be sticking with that.

Also, I have to say, at this point in my journey as a Skynyrd fan, I'm the *least* bit interested in the plane crash. At one time, I was hugely interested in every detail about it. No doubt Artimus will include some "juicy" details. But the older I get, the less interested in the morbid I am, and the more accepting of it I am. I'm now particularly interested in some of the "road stories" Artimus has to offer, from the good old days, as well as learning more about his personal life before Skynyrd. I think this will be a good book.

I talked to the author. There is NO SET DATE for Arti's book yet. Amazon says I believe March BUT THAT IS JUST A HOLD DATE. From what I gather they are waiting for this movie to come out (If ever re-written) to release the book for maximum sales.

Dean Goodman made a twitter account for the book. I found this quote from the book.

Has anyone heard with any certainty that this book is going to be released next month? I too saw the release date being pushed out from last year to this year, but I haven’t seen any mention of book promotional events, but I’ve only checked a few FB sites. Just wondering if anyone has any “inside” info on where the book stands. I was really hoping it would be out by years end. I’m assuming if it’s still going to be released there have been edits made and lawyers have to review it. Hopefully it gets released but not sure if that Amazon release date is official or just a hold date in their system.

I hope this book happens. I think Artimus tells it like it is. I think a big problem is that Judy wants money for anything that even so much as MENTIONS the name as Lynyrd Skynyrd, not just the music. I think because the title of the book had that in it, it was an issue. But how can Judy censor Artimus’s personal story? It’s his life. He WAS the drummer in Lynyrd Skynyrd and if he wants to write a book he should be able to!! All this legal BS is just absurd to me.

I think Artimus tells it like it is. He does. But he's also come up with a number of whoppers over the years. Mostly about the crash. Being shot by Johnny Mote is one. The hippy handshake is another. That said, I also hope that this book will come out one day. Just like I hope Ed's book will eventually be published without too much "editing" by Sharon.

You can't help but wish nothing but some financial success for AP, seems like a truly sweet man. But he's what I would call a bit of a space cadet and most definitely someone who doesn't seem to have a grasp on the truth, much like BP.
I would buy the book and try to decipher the truth from what he believes is the truth. I read Gene Odom's book and I'm all set to read Eckerman's book next. Over 40 years later and they're still fascinating individuals and beyond talented.
