If this topic has been posted previously, I apologize. I wonder if this film company may have snatched up that 1977 EBAY footage, and it could be incorporated with this movie ? I think it's possible that Cleopatra Films may have that footage now.ARTIMUS PYLE TO MAKE MOVIE BASED ON 1977 TOUR AND PLANE CRASH www.inquisitr.com/3238886/artimus-pyle-to-make-movie-about-lynyrd-skynyrds-fatal-1977-plane-crash/Artimus Pyle survived the 1977 plane crash that killed several of his Lynyrd Skynyrd bandmates, and now 40 years later, the founding Skynyrd drummer is working on a script for a feature film about the band and the tragedy. According to Deadline,Pyle has teamed up with director and co-writer Jared Cohn for a film about the seminal Southern rock band, to be produced by Cleopatra Films. Artimus Pyle was one of 20 survivors aboard the chartered Convair CV-240 airplane that crashed into a swampy forest in Mississippi on October 20, 1977, instantly killing Lynyrd Skynyrd frontman Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines, vocalist Cassie Gaines, assistant road manager Dean Kilpatrick, pilot Walter McCreary, and co-pilot William Gray just three days after the band’s fifth album, Street Survivors, was released. While it has been four decades since one of the greatest tragedies in rock ‘n roll, for Artimus Pyle, the memories are still painfully vivid. “We want this to be a good movie that tells a very passionate, intimate story about the music and the band and a rise and fall that happened so suddenly,” Pyle told Deadline. Artimus Pyle revealed that he spent 20 hours with Cohn rehashing the events of that tragic day in preparation for the Lynyrd Skynyrd screenplay. “When that plane crashed, we were at the top of the world, man,” Pyle said. “I mean, we could play with any band — any band, whether it was the Rolling Stones, anyone, and we would hold our own or better. I think of that accident every day and what we might have accomplished if we’d have 10 more years.” Pyle went on to say that he wants fans to see his late bandmates as they really were: “Real, funny people who loved the music, loved the success that allowed us to be able to travel the world and play for kings and queens all over this planet.” But there’s no denying that the tragic plane crash, and Lynyrd Skynyrd’s final show in South Carolina, will play heavily in the film.“Of course, there is the tragedy, us being on this airplane that ran out of fuel after a performance in Greenville, South Carolina that became the last place Ronnie Van Zant ever sang ‘Free Bird,'” Artimus said. “It’s incredibly personal and passionate to me and I want the movie-going public to be able to share the laughs and the tears.” Artimus Pyle hopes to begin shooting the film later this year, and the iconic drummer will provide some of the music for the soundtrack, although it remains to be seen if he will be able to use Lynyrd Skynyrd songs. Producers are working on getting the rights to the band’s music amid long-running disputes over Lynyrd Skynyrd’s legacy. Artimus Pyle and Gary Rossington are now the last two living Lynyrd Skynyrd band members who walked away from the crash, but the musicians no longer play together because of the disputes with heirs and management. The 1977 tragedy signaled the end of the band’s original lineup. An ABC News report at the time revealed that Pyle and the surviving members of the band vowed that they would never play under the name Lynyrd Skynyrd again. But a decade after the remaining bandmates disbanded, four of the crash survivors – Pyle, Rossington, Billy Powell and Leon Wilkeson — teamed up with former member Ed King, and the late Ronnie Van Zant’s younger brother, Johnny Van Zant, for a tribute tour. A revamped version of Lynyrd Skynyrd remains today with Johnny Van Zant as the frontman. Artimus Pyle now says the upcoming film is “a much deserved movie for the fans of Skynyrd, and for people who’ll become fans after they see it.” Artimus also gave props to Cleopatra Films for “stepping up the way it has, when nobody else was willing to go against the powers that be, to get this story told.” Artimus Pyle is also working on his autobiography, which could be released in conjunction with the Lynyrd Skynyrd film. You can hear Artimus Pyle talking about the fatal Lynyrd Skynyrd plane crash in the video below. ( I know this video has been posted before, but it was part of the article )

Very interesting to see how it all pans out and what ends up coming forth from past members. I'd *assume* it's went thru all the permission giving channels and I wonder if that will factor in and perhaps color some things. I'm incredibly interested in the book he has coming out. I just want to see them, the group from 77, in their heyday. Rumors and dirt and gossip are always appealing because....come on, we're human and we all have that inquisitive side to us. But hopefully this is just the band in all their glory and letting the music live on.
And there is a HUGE part of me who would just absolutely love to meet Artimus. Wild stories aside, I'd just love to get to talk to him and hang out.

I just hope they've been properly preserved and taken care of if that's true. Not knocking Craig but not everyone has the knowledge and means of properly storing film. I know I don't lol I do hope it's true, though, because I bet it would be a goldmine of history!

I'm just hoping one of the movie studios has their hands on it. So when these films are released, we may finally get to see that elusive footage.

Come out to an APB show courtd83. He's a great guy, and his band plays the skynyrd tunes perfectly. He signs autographs and takes pictures with all of the fans. He's a very personable guy and is easy to get along with. I'm proud to call him a friend and he always gives me a call at least once a month to catch up on things. Artimus always puts on a great show. I suggest y'all go to an APB show!

I hope that Artimus has some success with this movie. He has always been my favorite of the survivors, always willing to talk about his history of the band, and he speaks with intelligence and from the heart. He got screwed the worst out of all of the survivors and his ability to make a living has been seriously messed with by not only the LS organization, but that ex-girlfriend who wrongly accused him of the heinous acts for which he was innocent. Artimus is just a cool guy and always has been. I wish him all the luck and I will be supporting his efforts on this film. He has always carried the torch for Ronnie, right back to the beginning. If you see the Charlie Daniels 1979 concert where the boys came back to play for the first time, at the end, it is only Artimus who steps up the the mic and thanks Ronnie (posthumously) up in heaven. He has never wained for giving the credit to RVZ and for that, I respect the man. God Bless you, Artimus!

Didn't Craig get screwed the last time he donated footage to some kind of Skynyrd movie?

Looks like it's all " a go " and filming starts in a couple of weeks.Lynyrd Skynyrd Biopic ‘Street Survivors’ Ready To Rockdeadline.com/2017/04/lynyrd-skynrd-biopic-street-survivors-movie-cast-1202060843/by Patrick Hipes April 4, 2017 7:48pm EXCLUSIVE: Ian Shultis, Taylor Clift, Samuel Kay Forrest and Rich Dally III have been cast in Street Survivors: The True Story of the Lynyrd Skynyrd Plane Crash, a biopic about the iconic Southern rockers that begins shooting at month’s end in Los Angeles via Cleopatra Films. Jared Cohn directs the film, which he wrote from a story by longtime Skynyrd drummer Artimus Pyle. Originally announced as Free Bird, it traces the band’s tragic history centering on Pyle (Shultis) and his experiences of the events surrounding the chartered-plane crash on October 20, 1977 that killed original band members Ronnie Van Zant (Clift), Steve Gaines (Forrest), and backing vocalist Cassie Gaines, Steve’s sister. An assistant road manager and the two pilots also died in the crash after the tour plane ran out of fuel over Mississippi. A total of 20 passengers survived including Pyle and guitarist Gary Rossington (Them Guns frontman Navarone Garibaldi), the latter a founder of the band who broke both arms, legs, wrists, ankles and his pelvis but returned to music. At present, Rossington is the last original member of the band. Sean McNabb (Sons of Anarchy) also co-stars in the pic. Pyle also is a producer along with Cleopatra Records founder Brian Perera

Read between the lines, there was no interest. So while us hardcore fans are excited, it's not going in theaters. They will not secure the release of any music. This is straight to DVD. Cleopatra films is the definition of small time. They only recently started up from their record division and concentrates on grade B horror films and now branching into rock dramas. So far they have done a Scorpian film, and a punk band film. Neither of those hit theaters either. So hopefully it will be a rental on Amazon like "gone with the wind" was and I won't have to buy the DVD to see it.

It wasn't just a brief handshake- he's great! Love that band they are smoking hot! One of these days I'm gonna fly out somewhere and see them. Unfortunately when Artimus came to Calif in 2015 to sit in with Lyvyn Skynyrd I couldn't go.

New article about movie. Lynyrd Skynyrd ‘Street Survivors’ Biopic Starts FilmingBy Jeff Giles April 24, 2017 8:40 AM ultimateclassicrock.com/lynyrd-skynyrd-biopic/Street Survivors: The True Story of the Lynyrd Skynyrd Plane Crash, a biopic dramatizing the band’s early years and rise to fame, has rounded out its cast, with cameras set to start rolling today. Variety reports that actors Neill Byrnes and Anthony Rocco Bovo have been hired to play Aerosmith‘s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, completing a cast that includes Taylor Clift as Skynyrd frontman Ronnie Van Zant, Samuel Kay Forrest as guitarist Steve Gaines and Rich Dally III as guitarist Allen Collins. Ian Shultis is playing drummer Artimus Pyle, who wrote the story that formed the basis of the film’s script. Pyle announced the project last summer, promising “a very passionate, intimate story about the music and the band and a rise and fall that happened so suddenly.” As reflected by the film’s title, a significant portion of the story will center around the 1977 plane crash that killed three band members, one of the group’s road managers and both of the craft’s pilots. Byrnes and Rocco’s performances as Tyler and Perry factor into this portion of the film; as Variety notes, Aerosmith looked at leasing the plane just a week before the crash, but decided it wasn’t safe and lined up other accommodations instead. For Pyle, who shared his version of the Skynyrd saga with director and co-writer Jared Cohn, the accident still represents a heartbreaking loss of potential. “We could play with any band — any band, whether it was the Rolling Stones, anyone, and we would hold our own or better. I think of that accident every day and what we might have accomplished if we’d have 10 more years,” said Pyle. “I want the movie to portray my band members the way they were: real, funny people who loved the music, loved the success that allowed us to be able to travel the world and play for kings and queens all over this planet.”

Neil Byrnes was a friend of ours...my daughter was best friends with his daughter, and when younger, danced in a pink boa onstage in Boston, with Draw The Line. I used to wait on him also, talk to him frequently. My husband had an audition to play the part of Brad Whitford, but then I got pregnant. It was all set to go, too. The touring wouldve been too much, and he wasnt legal at the time with immigration .....nice guy, and Im telling you, he is the splitting image of Tyler. Makes one wonder...he lives in my hometown, my daughter used to sleep over his house all the time. The ONLY endorsed band by Aerosmith, and Steve has been onstage with them as well. Good pick for film!!!

I dont know how to do this but if someone were to go to Utube and look up Pat Travers and the song Call Me The Breeze you can hear his new version which he did for the Artimus movie soundtrack and maybe post a link to it here. I read an article taken from his facebook page that talks about how he was sent the backing track and he played around with his Helix sound pedal until it sounded like blended saxophones so he added that as the horn parts. Sounds just like horns! He said he got his wife to do the female background vocals for the new version. Its no way close to Skynyrd but he hammers it! I heard Gregg Allman is doing his version of Tuesdays Gone for the movie too. This is going to be good! I cant wait for this movie!!

I can't find it. Maybe I'll try again tomorrow, I'm just too tired at the moment. To post a You Tube video, copy the URL from the URL bar at the top of your screen. You can do this by right clicking in the address field and by selecting "Copy" from the menu that will appear. The field will turn blue (see red highlight on screen grab below.) Next, go into your message creation box and right click again. Select "paste" from the menu that will appear. As long as you are still in the message creation box, you will see the video link. The video will not appear until you have hit the "Create Post" button.
