On Monday, the band announced they are preparing to release their first album of original material in 18 years — since 2005’s “A Bigger Bang.” Titled “Hackney Diamonds,” the band will share details of the release at an event in East London’s Hackney district on Wednesday, where Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood will be interviewed live by “The Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon. The event will be livestreamed exclusively on YouTube on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. BST, 9:30 a.m. EST and 6:30 a.m. PST. “Hackney may be at the heart of Hackney Diamonds, but this is a truly global moment we want to share with fans around the world via YouTube,” the Rolling Stones shared in a statement. The announcement of “Hackney Diamonds” follows a cryptic teaser campaign, in which the band’s iconic mouth and tongue logo was projected onto the façade of major landmarks in cities around the world, including New York, London and Paris. The album is also the Stones’ first since the death of drummer Charlie Watts in 2021.

I'm not holding my breath. This band should be sitting in rocking chairs drooling out of their mouths as they fade into the sunset.
I'm wondering if this band is still relevant enough to produce music of a quality befitting their status?
One of the things I have always HATED about this band was how much of a follower of trends and fads they have been.
Anyone recall what the Rolling Stones turned into back in the disco era?
I lost all respect for them at that time when they sold out their roots to simply make music formulated to fit into a fad. That is exploitation at its worst right there.
So I'm wondering what to expect from this band now? Rock? Disco? Who knows maybe this will be a rap album?

I lost all respect for them at that time when they sold out their roots to simply make music formulated to fit into a fad. That is exploitation at its worst right there. So I'm wondering what to expect from this band now? Rock? Disco? Who knows maybe this will be a rap album? I like a handful of Stones songs, but they are not my favorites. Most of the stuff I like by them is when they created a few original licks or tied to their blues roots. They are a live band though, and I never saw them or heard a live album by them that drew me in. I'd take them over The Beatles any day. I recognize the incredible impact The Beatles had, creatively and stylistically, but they were not an FM band sonically. Why I don't listen to most stuff pre-1970 is the production hadn't evolved yet. I agree that TRS chased fads. Disco was the most noteworthy. There is a difference between chasing fads and being inspired or influenced by something an artist hears. They were clearly chasing in the 1970s. A good live album by the older bands often overcame the limitations of both the era's equipment and production styles. Maybe the Stones will put out something with a lot of good live performances on it? Mixing some quality vintage performances and a few new tracks would be a nice coda for them. They should put out stuff that is unmistakably them because the days of recreating themselves are long past.
