Lynyrd Skynyrd Colin Stough country music
Playing to your hometown crowd with a southern rock legend. Colin Stough was a fan-favorite throughout this season of American Idol with his gritty, soulful voice that landed him a spot in the final three. And before a winner was crowned, Stough returned to his hometown of Gattman, Mississippi for a ‘homecoming concert’ – and surprised the crowd with the guitarist of Lynyrd Skynyrd joining him. During his audition for Idol, Stough performed his version of the Lynyrd Skynyrd classic “Simple Man.” And before his hometown show, Skynyrd guitarist Rickey Medlocke was on hand to surprise Stough, who said the band is his favorite artist and that he listens to them everyday. Then it was only fitting to bring out Rickey Medlocke for an acoustic version of the song in front of his hometown crowd. Before the performance, Rickey complimented Stough’s run on the show: “He was really incredible through the whole show. I think he’s got the most incredible voice, and when I got the call to be here, it was an absolute yes.” What a full-circle moment for the young artist. And just like the first time we saw Stough perform this song, he brings so much soul to the stage as he delivers the lyrics, singing at a lower octave during the chorus that’s a perfect touch for the acoustic version. Although Stough was not named the winner of the season, he captured the hearts of many throughout his time on the show, and I think he’s going to do just fine even though he didn’t take home the trophy. There will be some great things coming from this young artist in the future. Here’s his full performance with Medlocke:
And here’s his visit back to his hometown from American Idol:
Also, check out Stough’s newest single, “I Still Talk To Jesus.”

Well, Colin Stough is his own original. Medlockey can just explain what a great song Simple Man is. Written and recorded by great musicians. Of which Medlockey is not. For that matter, Med- Lockey was not a writer or performer on any Skynyrd song that is played. Ever...

Yeah I was telling my Fiancée that the American Idol guy (I bet) couldn't name a single song Rickey played on in Skynyrd. Lol. He says he listens to Skynyrd every day bet he skipped right over the seasons and white dove.

Very Most likely, The Idol Dude could not identify Ricky Greens semi produced recordings, On First and Last. This question Begs an answer? If the plane crash had not happened. Ronnie had not died. Does anyone actually believe that Rickless Green Medockey would have ever been rolled on a Skynyrd LP? I would bet a large wage that bets the answer would be a resounding HELL NO !!!

I don't blame Ricky for playing in the tribute band for 30+ years. He has made a good living doing so. I just don't like him serving the role of the "face" of Skynyrd. He isn't Skynyrd at all by any stretch of the imagination. I am a die-hard believer that Skynyrd died on 10/20/77. The ONLY person in that tribute band that has any business doing this kind of stuff is JVZ and even then I really don't like it.
If I were one of the guys in the tribute band, I would gladly play the shows and get paid but I would be really uncomfortable going out and pretending to be Lynyrd Skynyrd for these publicity type events like Ricky is doing. My conscious would not let me do it. It would be like wearing a fake military uniform for stolen valor on Veterans day or something. Honor the people who wrote and performed this music. Don't try to pretend you were part of it. I know I know...Ricky played drums on the Muscle Shoals sessions but he didn't write a damn thing. He was a fill-in drummer for a very short period. End of story.

To call Rickless Medlockey an original member of Lynyrd Skynyrd was even too much for Judy to embellish. Think about that !!! Even the guy's name is not original.
