Hmmm interesting that Dolly gets "gifted" $100 million after being one of the main voices for Vaccination and otherwise over the past several years.
Nothing to see here folks! No propaganda reward for Dolly.

Sad to say the Paul Rodgers song fell through. It had nothing to do with drama just a schedule conflict. I was really looking forward to that one!

It is a shame that Paul Rogers will not be singing a song on this album.

Dolly Parton singing freebird is pretty lame imo. It doesn’t excite me and I’m sure many other Skynyrd fans. I don’t dislike Dolly as a singer, but she has nothing to do with Skynyrd. It’s an attention grab by those involved. Why not Barry Manilow or someone else who was never influenced by Skynyrd. No doubt it's an attention grab. I love that Gary’s people sent his track to Artimus’ people. But, Dolly just doesn’t do it for me. She’s better than Beyonce or someone I would think.

I think Ronnie and Allen would think it’s cool simply because it’s Dolly Parton singing a song they wrote. Allen loved Patsy Cline, sort of the same thing. I think this is why Gary was happy to be a part of it. I don’t have a problem with it.

In my opinion Allen may have loved Patsy Cline but doesn't mean he felt the same about Dolly Parton. I love listening to many of Johnny Cash's songs but I would not want to listen to Kenny Rogers. Ronnie was into country so, I can see him happy about Dolly recording the song. If I recall Allen liked rock music. Patsy Cline did not fit in with Allen's list of artists/bands that he liked.
Dolly singing "Free Bird" will be on Artimus' tribute album and Dolly's rock album. Dolly's album has her singing "Let It Be" with Paul McCartney. She also is doing songs with Steven Tyler, Steve Perry, Cher, Stevie Nicks, Joan Jett and John Fogerty. Which song is getting released from Dolly's album for airplay?

But, Dolly is a helluva singer and has sold millions and millions of records. maybe a 100 million. So when an Icon like that wants to pay tribute to your redneck ass, it is kinda a big deal. Gary, himself, sent his track to Ken Wells, Dolly's producer. It was after that-that the hands opened up on Gary's side.

Dolly has a great track record as a songwriter. I can't imagine they wouldn't be flattered that she likes one of their songs. And having Dolly cover one of your songs is going to shine a pretty positive light on your work. I don't see why they'd mind that. Also, if Ronnie and Allen were still alive they'd be in their 70s - they might not mind being celebrated as some of the elder statesmen of rock.
And personally, I think it speaks well of a song when it can be covered by someone who works in a different genre and has a different style. Not all songs can stand up to that.

All ready been done by one of the Judd sisters I agree with batlizard74
I am not trying to disrespect Ms. Parton, but when Johnny started singing Free Bird in the Tribute Band he caught a bunch of shit for singing Ronnie's song. I still feel it is Ronnie and Allens SONG. Just cause Gary & Artie are on it don't mean nothing to me. You might as well let Slick Rick play the Allen lead solo, just someone else cashing in on Skynyrd

You might as well let Slick Rick play the Allen lead solo, just someone else cashing in on Skynyrd Emm Dee, You have been dealing with water leaks so long, it has had a waterboarding effect on you. You old Coot, Dolly and Artimus do not claim to be original, founding members of Lynyrd Skynyrd. They are paying Tribute to Lynyrd Skynyrd. HENCE, a Tribute Album of selected-Lynyrd Skynyrd- songs to pay TRIBUTE to Lynyrd Skynyrd. Of course, Free-Bird is Ronnie and Allen's song. And without Rossington's ingenious slide work, Free-bird you be much less of a song. I realize that you have spent thousands and thousands of dollars paying tribute to your sawed off, chubby, half cousin looking Tribute Singer. Who is taller? Who is Rounder? So, I appreciate your wanting to see Med- Lockey play my hero (Allen Collins) guitar parts. Emm Dee? I appreciate the fact that not one sole has ever praised a well you drilled, that never produced water. A Faucet that you never stopped the leak. Or the time you drilled a well 5 miles East of the Eastern Shore of Maryland. In 60 feet of water and the Well still would not produce flowed Aqua. So please, If Ms. Dolly Parton is so inclined to pay tribute to Lynyrd Skynyrd, see it with respect and enjoy the song. If you want to hear Medlockey play so bad, he will be coming to a bar near you, Soon. His friends call him Allen. And I suspect you have!!!

HEY NOW! I would rather hear a pretty girl fart, then listen to old Dolly sing Free Bird "Water it will never sell" W C Fields Emm Dee, Your vision of a pretty girl and what you mistake to be a fart, says a lot. Dolly's tribute to Ronnie and Skynyrd came together quite easily. Minimal production was even required. I was told, by the producer, And He is a Bad Ass Nashville Respected Music Producer, that Artimus' Band was very spot on. Gary's slide solo is one of his best. People sing songs and some people (Performers) sing from the heart. On a song like Free-Bird, it is very obvious. I have heard the song, in its finished state. I can only suggest that you wait your turn and here the song for yourself. See for yourself. BTW: W.C.Fields was a dork !!
