(Photo by Robb Cohen/Invision/AP) Robb Cohen, Jeff Daly/Invision/AP Simon Kent 12 Nov 2021 Blues guitarist Robert Cray has dropped out of Eric Clapton’s U.S. tour citing the British guitar legend’s anti-lockdown stance as well as his public opposition to coronavirus vaccine mandates. In an interview with the Washington Post, Cray said he backed out from a tour with Clapton after the latter released a song last year comparing lockdowns to slavery. The song in question is “Stand And Deliver,” a joint release with fellow sceptic Van Morrison that saw Clapton sing: “Do you wanna be a free man / Or do you wanna be a slave? / Do you wanna wear these chains / Until you’re lying in the grave?” As he explained to the Post, Cray – a black man born into a segregated community in 1953 Georgia – rejected such a comparison. Cray revealed he sent Clapton an email after he heard the track last December, saying “his reaction back to me was that he was referring to slaves from, you know, England from way back.” According to the report, Cray cut ties with Clapton, making contact one last time to formally exit his planned stint opening for Clapton on tour. Cray went on to address a photo Clapton had taken with Texas governor Greg Abbott, who has publicly backed anti-abortion laws and election integrity measures. “There’s this great photo [from 2013] at Madison Square Garden after the show, with B.B. King sitting in a chair, Jimmie Vaughan, myself and Eric sitting behind him,” Cray told the Post. “And I looked at that picture of Gov. Abbott, Jimmie Vaughan, and Eric Clapton in that similar pose, and I’m going, ‘What’s wrong with this picture? Why are you doing this?’” Eric Clapton has long been vocal in opposition to lockdown measures, vaccine passports, and vaccine mandates, as Breitbart News reported. Specifically, Clapton has publicly opposed forced shutdowns and expressed skepticism of coronavirus vaccines after experiencing what he described as debilitating side effects from the Oxford-AstraZeneca shots. Back in May, the music legend announced he will not play at venues that require audience members to be vaccinated before attending concerts. Clapton was spurred to comment after British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said starting in September concert halls and stadiums would require fans to provide proof of vaccination against the coronavirus before entering events. Breitbart News @breitbartnews "I wish to say that I will not perform on any stage where there is a discriminated audience present. Unless there is provision made for all people to attend, I reserve the right to cancel the show.” Clapton also released a new, pro-freedom single in which he rails against authoritarians who crush individual liberties. “This Has Gotta Stop,” which the singer dropped back in August, features the refrain, “This has gotta stop / Enough is enough / I can’t take this BS any longer.” This isn’t the first time Eric Clapton has used music to air his views over the loss of freedoms during the coronavirus pandemic. As Breitbart News reported, Clapton teamed up with Van Morrison last year to release the single “Stand and Deliver,” which criticized government-imposed lockdowns, and sparked the reaction from Robert Cray which has now gone public.

To Cray, I have no problems with the lyrics Clapton wrote. If you do, then its on you. Clapton and his tour don't need you around any how. Good riddance. Robert Cray dropped out due to his own skin color preferences being more important than anything else. Robert Cray dropping out says more about him than Clapton. As if Clapton did anything wrong.

www.loudersound.com/news/robert-cray-ends-friendship-with-selfish-eric-clapton-over-extreme-viewsRobert Cray ends friendship with "selfish" Eric Clapton over "extreme" views By Fraser Lewry 37 minutes ago Bluesman Robert Cray explains why his 35-year friendship with Eric Clapton is over, confirming he's pulled out of an upcoming tour Robert Cray and Eric Clapton onstage at the Crossroads Festival in 2004 (Image credit: Jun Sato/Getty Images ) Bluesman Robert Cray has spoken of his disappointment with Eric Clapton over the latter's stance on Covid vaccinations and lockdown. Talking to the Washington Post for a scathing article headlined, "What Happened To Eric Clapton?" Cray reveals that he took initially umbrage at Clapton's protest song Stand And Deliver, which was recorded with fellow lockdown sceptic Van Morrison and poured scorn on citizens adhering to lockdown rules. “Do you wanna be a free man?", the lyrics ask. "Or do you wanna be a slave?” Cray wrote to Clapton to question his comparison of public health measures to slavery, and wasn't entirely happy with the response. "His reaction back to me was that he was referring to slaves from, you know, England from way back,” Cray told the Post. Cray then wrote to Clapton to say he was pulling out of some planned support slots on an upcoming tour. The final straw came in September when Texas governor Gregg Abbott shared an image taken backstage with Clapton and guitarist Jimmie Vaughan. Abbott had been in the news for lifting lockdown restrictions in the state - leading to a surge in Covid case numbers - and earlier this year issued an executive order banning mask mandates in public schools and governmental bodies. Abbott has also been criticised for his opposition to gay marriage, for the introduction of the nation's most restrictive abortion laws, and for voting reforms that have been widely denounced by voting advocates and civil rights organisations. “I’ve told myself, I don’t need to have a conversation,” Cray says. “I’d just rather not associate with somebody who’s on the extreme and being so selfish. We started playing a music that wasn’t particularly popular to start off with at the time we started playing. We’ve gained some notoriety, and I’m fine with that, but I surely don’t need to hang out with Eric Clapton for that to continue." Drummer Jim Keltner, who's known Clapton for half a century and plays on six of his albums, is puzzled by Clapton's stance. “Nobody I’ve talked to that knows Eric has an answer,” he says. “We’re all in the same boat. We’re all going, ‘I can’t figure it out.’ “It’s something that he brought upon himself. And so I’ve been hoping and praying really, that he can figure out a way to, I don’t say get out of it, but to make it go away somehow so that it doesn’t ultimately interfere with the music." Earlier this year, Clapton announced he would take a stand against the UK government’s decision to implement a vaccine passport system for gigs and nightclubs, saying, “I will not perform on any stage where there is a discriminated audience. Unless there is provision made for all people to attend, I reserve the right to cancel the show.” Clapton's new album, The Lady In The Balcony: Lockdown Sessions (Live) was recorded for an audience of one (Clapton's wife) and is out now.

What Robert Cray is telling all of us is that white people do not have a right to their own opinions or freedom to have their own opinions. Robert Cray seems to be under the impression that white people need to adopt his opinion or else Robert Cray cannot be friends with white people who do not share his specific opinions. And this folks is pure bullshyt on Robert Cray's part showing his unacceptable one-sided racism perspective. We all have to ask ourselves what did Eric Clapton do that was so wrong to this black man? The answer is NOTHING! Robert Cray objected to Clapton's use of the word slave as if black people are the only ones who can own its use. Robert, there is a thing called freedom. Freedom of choice, freedom of speech, and freedom of opinions and if you do not like it then go F yourself a**hole. This world does not need more control freak racists telling others they have no rights. I hope Clapton and this tour makes millions while Robert Cray is sitting at home making zero.

There is a little more to this than use of a word. Robert Cray does not agree with Clapton on his anti-forced vaccine opinion. Cray believes Clapton's choice of freedom of choice is selfish of Clapton to not think about others who might be sickened and die because of anti-vaxers.
Apparently Cray does not agree that heavy handed fascist vaccine mandates goes against the ideals of freedom as Clapton does. Clapton says being forced to vaccinate makes citizens basically slaves to the state forced to obey every dictate whether correct or not matters not.
Cray stands with the fascist slave masters. Clapton "selfishly" stands with the freedom fighters of this world.
And to Cray, I am on Clapton's side in this BS and not because of skin color. Because Clapton is in the right on this one as I see it and you Robert Cray are just a selfish racist control freak and when you can't win your way you pick up your toys, throw a tantrum, and go play somewhere else.
Clapton will be playing to hundreds of thousands and possibly millions of adoring fans. How many will be in your selfish racist solo career audience Robert Cray? A hundred? Maybe a few hundred at best?
I use to have respect for Robert Cray, but not any more...

In thinking about this more, Robert Cray is the fascist here.
He is telling Clapton that because you do not think as I do, and because you do not hold the opinion I hold, then I will now play petty tyrant fascist dictator and I Robert Cray am cancelling you Eric Clapton for daring to disagree even after I told you that you have to have my opinion and failed to do so, and therefore I Robert Cray will now cancel you and make a stink about it in the press.
Robert Cray is the epitome of fascist left cancel culture that WE freedom lovers need to cancel out! Ha!

What? No one taking sides in this vax or don't vax madness? I know, not exactly Skynyrd, but the forums gotta discuss something when Skynyrd is light in the news... And now they want to mandate vaccines for our children or else... And here is the sad reality description as put forward by people like Gene Simmons and Robert Cray is shown below perfectly. Eric Clapton stands with the mother protecting her son from the gestapo vaxxers, and Gene Simmons and Robert Cray are all for having a government big and powerful enough to dictate your personal healthcare because they claim you threaten them so they get to tell you what to do because you have no rights, and they have more rights says Gene Simmons and Robert Cray. I say hell no. I am with Clapton and the freedom fighting moms protecting their kids from democrats!

What you would like a discussion about vaccines? I did find it a bit odd that no one including you Cagey has said anything on the matter. The more I learn about COVID I don't believe vaccines are 100% necessary. I do not trust Fauci at all when it comes to any information concerning vaccines. I have been following doctor who has been sharing information concerning stats and information about COVID. I believe each person has a right to decide if they would like to get the vaccine or not. No one should be losing their job over deciding to get vaccinated or not. My parents doctor was told by the state he had to get the vaccine or his practice would get shut down. This is totally wrong! There is also the issue about long term effects from taking the vaccine. No one knows how the vaccine is going to effect a person years from now. Could the vaccine damage organs? Are boosters going to be needed forever? Children do not need to be vaccinated. Studies are showing that there are a small number of COVID deaths for children. More children are dying from the vaccine than they are of COVID. I know of a few children that got COVID and recovered from it with no major issues.

I am vaccinated, but I believe in freedom of choice, but as a parent what is best for my children? Especially if one has an underlying condition? Which way to go???

Robert Cray is the epitome of fascist left cancel culture that WE freedom lovers need to cancel out! Ha! What about good ole Eric here, He tends to be the idiot here, alongside Van Morrison. I believe in Freedom of Choice as well, no doubt, and you can't force anyone to get vaccinated against their will. Here in my region we now see the consequences. Restrictions had been lifted through the summer and now the next wave is coming on. Just about all the people on ICU here are people that have not been vaccinated at all, blocking now spaces for people who need urgent operations for other medical reasons in hospitals. Now these fools line up to get their first shot, but simply because they realize now, that they will be excluded from
public life in the near future.
So much for Freedom of Choice, but what about the future for all of us, being able to live again together like before ? Personally, I also wonder about the slow responses here, especially no-one commented about Clapton...and i dont think you should call Robert Cray a Facist, come on....
