ultimateclassicrock.com/artimus-pyle-lynyrd-skynyrd-movie/ARTIMUS PYLE SAYS HIS LYNYRD SKYNYRD FILM WILL BE ‘CULT CLASSIC’ MARTIN KIELTY February 18, 2020 Former Lynyrd Skynyrd drummer Artimus Pyle predicted that Street Survivors, the movie about his experiences surrounding the band’s devastating plane crash in 1977, would become a “cult classic” in time. The co-founding member said he was proud of the production that premiered at the Hollywood Reel Independent Film Festival in Los Angeles on Feb. 16, despite the fact it was made without his former bandmates’ approval. Pyle announced his movie plans in 2016, which led to a lawsuit from guitarist Gary Rossington and the estates of Ronnie Van Zant and Steve and Cassie Gaines, who died in the crash. The legal action resulted in a permanent injunction being put in place, preventing Pyle from proceeding; however, that decision was overturned after an appeal in 2018. The final ruling was based on the fact that, even though an agreement prevented any member or former member working on a band-related project without the approval of at least two others, Pyle couldn’t be stopped from sharing his account of events from his own life. He’s heard as the film's narrator and played onscreen by actor Ian Shultis in the dramatization. “It was my story, and I didn't realize it was going to be my story,” Pyle told The Metal Voice at the premiere. “I thought it was going to be more general, but it was basically focused on what happened to me.” Describing the results as “intense,” he added, “I think the movie is going to be a cult classic. … There is also humor and sex, drugs and rock ’n’ roll. That's the way it was in the ‘60s and ‘70s.” He said he was “disappointed” that his former bandmates “didn't come with me to make a bigger movie, with a bigger budget." "They chose to try to destroy me rather than come to the table and make a film together," Pyle noted. "So this is what it turned out to be, and I’m very proud of it. I am proud of the director and ... the cast. " Pyle took part in Skynyrd’s reunion 10 years after the crash, and remained in the band until 1991, later citing legal and interpersonal problems for his departure. “The entire time we were doing the movie, we were being sued and we had thousand-dollar-an-hour bloodsucking attorneys coming at us the entire time," he said. "The director, Jared Cohn, and [production company] Cleopatra Entertainment's V.P. Tim Yasui and President Brian Perera kept the faith.” Street Survivors will appear in theaters soon. A home-video and soundtrack release are scheduled for June 30. ***Click on link above to view video interview

I have to wonder who comes up with the image of this plane crashing in the movie.
1)Flames were shooting out the exhaust of the right engine, not left engine. Experts say this is normal for running too rich.
2)Left engine shown literally on fire from front of engine. Nothing close to reality.
3)Plane ran out of fuel. No fuel left to fuel flames as shown.
4)Engines went quiet. This one shows a dramatic situation not in evidence in reality.
Why?

Don't think anyone would have survived a crash with the angle that image shows (without the proper context). NTSB stated it was a 5 degree angle of descent till clipping the tops of the pines 60-80 ft. tall. The image shows a much steeper angle with no trees in the picture. The angle obviously changed upon clipping the tree tops, but the plane would have been considerably closer to the ground by that point and slowed to a degree by forest resistance. That photo makes it look like they descended at that steep angle the whole way down.

It seems there is an effort at sensationalizing what should be a true account which will in effect reduce the accuracy and truthfulness of it. Does not reflect well on Artimus telling his story if it becomes something else all together.

The flames are used to distract people from noticing that they used the wrong plane (DC3?). Guess it worked.

They are so off on the airplane being used also. There are still Convairs flying and they are using Ricky Nelson’s type - a DC-3 instead. I’m guessing they couldn’t even afford to CGI a Convair either.

Flames were shooting out of the engines on the flight from Lakeland to Greenville. Maybe there's a scene from that flight to show they had a problem. I don't know, I just know that Artimus is my friend and I hope that everyone gives this movie a chance. I just talked to him a few days ago on his way to the Rock Legends Cruise. He says tell everyone hello and thanks for the support!!

Summing things up, it’s a movie. It’s not a documentary. I’ll admit that I was quick to judge at first but I’ve changed my thinking.

I saw the teaser again last night. I'm having a hard time remaining optimistic about this one. The whole --grab the fifth of JD and the crimson velvet pillow, and stop mid-isle to say I love you guys and offer up the hippie handshake, was a little too much for this frynd (especially when the orchestra hits the floor tom with reverb for effect, at the EXACT moment, the character playing Ronnie's hand touches Arti's) One things for certain, it will damn sure be interesting to see. I'd like to know if Ronnie really called Artimus up and said they had 10 drumsets and 10 drummers, and was going to have a little "drum-off".. If this is true, who were the other 9?

RotgutLife76 , I’m anxious to see how the scene with Johnny Mote plays out. I’m sure they were all on the verge of going into shock but I’m just not sure about him being shot. Shot at, yes. Ken Peden and Marc Frank were with Artimus. I’ve read comments from both of them. Ken talked about the gunshot very recently in a Facebook group I’m in. I’m not one to repeat things. I screenshot so there’s no question as to what was said! I don’t feel badly about sharing this because I was a small part of the conversation. I would love to know what y’all think about this.

Would think a scar would be present if Arti was shot as he claims. And I get the feeling Johnny Mote gets irritated w/ this claim. Just seems like it could be easily cleared up by showing the scar and probably should be if their going to portray the Johnny Mote character in the movie. That's a liberty that shouldn't be taken by the movie company.
All that said, I'm certainly going to watch the movie.

FreeBirdFarm I tend to lean on Johnny Motes's version of that event. I do believe he was scared for his wife/family when 3 bloody hippies came walking through the field, and more than likely he did shoot into the air in their direction. I think they were all in a state of shock and when Mote fired his weapon, Artimus probably braced for the worse and maybe "thought" he got shot. I just wonder about all the inconsistencies this film will bring forth. I've never truly believed that Mote shot Artimus, a good ol boy with a rifle could do some serious work, if he needed to, he was "outnumbered" 3 to 1 on his own property, looking at it from a landowner's perspective, he could've left 3 for the coroner up in the field. He didn't. He knew something was up. I've never believed the whole hippie handshake bit either. It's hard to shake hands with a man who's passed out on the floor.

Ghost, I do a lot of gunning and I do mean a whole bunch. I have been shot at least 3 times I can think of. all 3 times light load dove shot. its like being shot with a high power B B gun. It stings like a mother focker left a hell of a welt under my eye but no scar. Maybe Pyle got hit with a stray B B from the gun yes it would sting and plus the noise from the shot it probably did spin him and put him on the ground. Not to mention it was dark and the flash from the blast of the gun most likely made him hit the dirt

I know memory can be tricky and the passing of time can make it worse but in the case of a shooting, I think the shooter, and the shootee, would recall the facts pretty well.

Makes it seem like he was hit w/ a high powered rifle from the grassy knoll. But I could buy your explanation though.

I don’t know how to quote from one thread to a different thread I'm old school so I use a computer to do my posting and not a phone. Phones seem to make what should be simple pretty complicated at times. With a computer, it's very easy. Click the Quote button on the post you want to quote. Make sure you are in BBCode mode and not Preview. Copy the entire text, making sure you get all the tags (that's the stuff between square brackets). Then go to where you want to use the quoted text. Paste the quoted text into your message box, then reply. Make sure your cursor is positioned after or below the quoted text
