And although I like Metallica, that was just awful (no offense to the lovely JG). I liked the acoustic version better than I thought I would. Don't worry Col I am not at all offended. This thread was started to expose frynds to different versions of songs. It was also to start discussions about the arrangements bands came up with. while researching a song I ran across a couple bands from the sixties I never heard of which were really good.

JG... 👍.
Cagey, I so disagree. I'm no expert on any kind of music, not even close. I just know what I really enjoy and I absolutely love the shit out of Old & In The Way. Come on, Vassar Clements... 👏👏 🎻🎻 😁
You may not think they're bluegrass but this Yankee appreciates a group with a fiddler, so - it sounds like bluegrass to me, lol. I'm sure there's much better but this is what appeals to me. Come on, just listen to Midnight Moonlight for me once and loud... and see if you don't like it??

JG those cover versions were recorded by some of the best Nashville session players around. There is an entire series of similar albums called "Pickin' On" and then name your band for the album. I listen to this album all the time. It is a fantastic album. Great sound quality. Great musicianship. New arrangements, switched up instrumentation. Really an exceptional album... give it some time to grow on you. That Smell is awesome! I have this... the Led Zeppelin one is good also... You kinda have to like banjo fiddle and mandolin music...

While I liked Motley Crue in my headbangers ball days... that was when MTv played music on the "music television" station for the kids too young to remember... The nod goes to the original Brownsville Station version for me...
AXS tv has the best in music visualization now...

The single coolest black dude I ever heard must be next... "give her some acid... she's thirsty"... what a f'n line...
Here come that white dog who wanted all the buffalo... from gyrating to twerking... what a country...
and of course that Scientologist and the hot pop pinup doll... brings up the rear... imo...

Jan and Dean's biggest hit.
First up the GoGo's "Surf City" at a 20001 tribute for Brian Wilson. Brian was a co-writer.
Some say punk music comes from the sixties surf music. The Ramones have a version of "Surf City".

One of the greatest sing along songs "Happy Together".
Vocals only of the song by the Turtles.
And then we have Miley Cyrus. I am not crazy about her vocals.

Miley's version is awful. Couldn't make it through it. One of the greatest radio tunes of the 60s. I had never heard the vocal track till tonight. Thanks for posting it. You can hear more of the production. Great song by the turtles. I like a lot of their songs.

Off of Ronnie's influential playlist Otis Redding's "(Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay".
Pearl Jam's version.
Michael Bolton also has a version.

If any of you get the chance to see Roger Waters' new video Us and Them check it out!
Roger Waters is the sound and genius behind Pink Floyd and no one can play it better than he! And his new concert film proves it. Not only is he faithful to all the old PF songs and hits, but Roger Waters has done something no one else has done... he has rearranged the most popular music into woven tapestry and limits the length of the classics to like 5 minutes or less so the days of 30 minutes of mindless useless endless music are over! Roger masterfully weaves an all new Pink Floyd tapestry that is unique and f'ing great!
The only downside to what Roger Waters does is injection of politics. He is a Trump hater and so he brings his hate Trump crap into his musical performance and this is the only down side, but if you only listen to the soundtrack most of that communist political crap can be avoided.
Another fantastic do it better today is Gov't. Mule. Warren Haynes has gone out of his way to cover older classics from numerous artists and put his twist on them that is just fantastic! It is great to hear how Warren turns everyone else's music into Southern Rock like his Pink Floyd tribute album Dark Side Of the Mule...

Some more 'Rave On' Rick Nelson 1985, the year he passed away.
England's Cliff Richard who is known in the US for 'Devil Woman' 'Suddenly', 'Dreamin' and "We Don't Talk Anymore' can rock.
Denny Laine of the Moody Blues and Wings released an album called 'Holly Days'as a tribute to Buddy Holly. Paul McCartney produced the album as well as played most of the instruments along. Linda McCartney was also involved.
Here is the original song written and performed by Sonny West.

Jersey, that one’s tough! I probably like the original by Sonny West the best. Rick Nelson’s vocals are amazing and I loved the piano but I liked John Mellencamp’s version, too. His band was really good!
Those three are my choices with the original as my top pick. John Mellencamp would probably be second and Rick Nelson would be third. All the others were a ‘no’ for me except for maybe Buddy Holly.

Thanks JG for the mention.Although the Sonics do a great version, and the Kinks are one of my favorite bands, I have to go with the Kingsmen on "louie"as the guitar break is one of the greatest in rock and roll, and started a whole new way of playing. Buddy Holly is my all time main guy, so I vote for him. A great song that Sonny West wrote and does a great job on.
