I always wondered why Artimus didn't position himself and his drums more upfront to take center stage at his gigs? We are there basically to see Arti...he's the main reason. The reason I say this is I had seen Steve Hackett in concert and he is the one upfront. Not the singer...him. I guess that speaks volumes on what type of person Artimus is. Not an egomaniac...makes me believe that he really is there for the music.

I think Ronnie would be scratching his head in puzzlement, actually. LOL! I'm not Arti so I can't speak for him, but I can venture a guess. And my guess is that Arti does what he does because it's what the fans expect. Concert goers are used to seeing the singer in front, along with the guitarists, and the drummer in back. Putting the drums in front may not sound like much but I believe that it would change the whole dynamics. Just think of the few stage acts where the drummer is also the singer. Phil Collins (yawn!) comes to mind. Arti's band is a tribute band. He knows it and he's always been straightforward about it. Tribute bands are supposed to recreate the experience of the original as closely as possible. Skynyrd never positioned their drums upfront. Putting Arti's drums front and centre would change the experience for the audience.

The drums are not in the front of the stage most likely because the Artimus and the drums are not the focus of the music of Skynyrd. Artimus wants Ronnie's music to be the attraction. Like Blue Monday said most people are use to seeing the lead singer and guitars up front. Last year I was fortunate to see Artimus' band. It was all about the music. APB puts on a fabulous show.

I dare say he just likes doin what he’s always done....providing the driving backbone of the songs. Some people don’t want to be in the center of focus. Artimus seems to be one who doesn’t need the front and center for th glory. He loves the music, loves his bandmates (well. Maybe not ALLLLL of them lol), and loves the songs. Plus....drums up front? You wouldn’t hear a damn bit of the singing or other players lol it’d drown everything out. Sound wise it would probably be a disaster.

Hey courtd83, you coming to see APB on February 3rd in Asheville? Holy crap I didn’t know he’d be playing there again so soon! I just may come to it, thanks for telling me! Are you going?? ***it May also depend on weather. Sam’s gap (I’m coming from Johnson city direction) becomes an absolute bear to cross in the winter months.

The drummer needs to see the singer, the other guys need to see the drummer - generally speaking. It's not practical to put the drummer upfront, especially when he is a powerhouse. That is why they have risers. It might work for Ringo Starr because he is the most famous drummer that ever lived and people want to see him, plus he is a time-keeper.
