blog.henrymiller.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/monkees.jpg I got the idea for this thread from the videos that got posted to the "Other musical tastes" thread on the Off Topic board. Use this thread to post any non-Skynyrd, non-Southern music videos that you feel like posting. I'll start with this song by a band from the 70s called the Grass Roots. I had the "16 Greatest Hits" album that you can see at 0:33 in the video, and it's probably still in a box somewhere in my house. I was reminded of that album when we talked about cheesy light rock from the 70s on the other thread. I played that album until it was completely worn out, and this was my favourite song on it. Let's see some more videos. Good or bad. Anything you feel like posting

Waylon Jennings with Tony Joe White, i like both artists. Ronnie van Zant was a fan of Waylon Jennings as well (look at the lyrics of 'When You Got Good Friends')

JJ Cale, i like his music, and Lynyrd Skynyrd covered two songs of him.

The great Howlin' Wolf does "How Many More Years" with the young Rolling Stones sitting at his feet. He was one of their heroes.
The Rolling Stones do "Let's Spend The Night Together" on the Ed Sullivan Show. Ole Ed didn't like the idea of spending the night together so he asked that the lyrics be altered. Watch Mick Jagger roll his eyes every time he sings the "new and improved" lyrics!

This was filmed at The Rainbow in London about 6 months after Skynyrd had played in Europe for the last time in early 1977.

The Rainbow Theatre, London, cropped up in a previous thread. Here's some photographs of the venue, then and now. Lynyrd Skynyrd at the Rainbow, Finsbury Park, London. This was apparently taken on January 27, 1977. When it was known as The Astoria, Finsbury Park, circa 1936. The Sir George Robey pub, later a pub-music venue, extreme left. In 1986, still a music venue with the distinctive 'Rainbow' logo. The Sir George Robey pub now, or what's left of it. The building partly visible behind the traffic light is the Rainbow. In 2013. It's owned by a 'seventh-day-wonder' type evangelical church group these days.

It would be kind of cool to hear them do some Skynyrd? Maybe if we sent them the suggestion?

This is one of the most hilarious music videos ever made. Watch Charlie Watts almost drowning in bubbles, while Keith Richards and Mick Taylor are trying really, really hard not to burst out laughing... A rare smile from Mr. Taylor.
Why the sailor costumes? Don't ask me, I don't have a clue!
You also gotta love Keith's toothless smile, courtesy of years of drug abuse.

That's their best video IMO Blue, and probably the cheapest to make too. Keith put his bad teeth down to the National Health Service;-bare bones dentistry unless you go 'private' and get full-on health care. Like, the years of heroin addiction etc. were not a factor!
Like Charlie Watts grinning at Mick's antics in the way that a grandfather looks down knowingly at his grandson, not disapproving exactly, but just, okay, I'll tolerate that. At 2.47 MJ almost knocks KR's block off when he turns round and lashes out with his foot.
Apparently this version of the song was recorded at a studio in Wembley before they shot the video, it was in stereo but was folded down into mono for the video soundtrack. Pity it hasn't been put out on CD.
