I find it interesting when Rickey is asked about FB being the greatest song of all time that Rickey will NOT answer him. Rickey will not play along and agree with him. Instead Rickey simply diverts to Billboard and how FB is shown to be one of the most requested songs.
FB is an Allen Collins song. And Rickey will not give Allen's creation the nod as requested in this interview.

I think when Gary's band is done and over with and Rickey is no longer associated to the Skynyrd organization that you will hear him turn negative on them just like Ed King has done to them and have nothing nice to say in other words the real Rickey.

Rickey says he has been butchering Free Bird longer than Allen smoked it. Rickey its not your song if you are so fucking cool why don't Gary let you play White Dove? Its because you suck....

Who's the babe in the photo?
I went into this with what I hope was an open mind. But I can't help it, I find this man insufferable. His self satisfaction is just too obvious. The show host tried not once, but twice, to make him say that FB is the greatest song ever. All Rickey would say is that he's been butchering playing the solo longer than Allen played it. As if it was some sort of contest. As if he was getting better at it every time. Psssst Rickey: you can play it for a million more years, you're still going to come up short. Way short. I guess it would have been too hard for Rickey simply to acknowledge the man who created the song.
Funny how the show starts with Allen's opening notes for CMTB. Allen's, not Rickey's. Fancy that!

The tour setlist has ot changed much in 20 years. I can't believe these guys aren't bored with playing the same thing night after night. Its like a Broadway show, just a different city.

I'm willing to bet that they ARE bored with the set list and that they'd happily drop SHA, 3 Steps and whatever other song they have been paying tribute to night after night on the road for god knows how long. I'm willing to bet that they'd much rather play songs off of "Last of a Dying Breed", "Gods & Guns" and all the other post-crash albums. But they know which side their bread is buttered on, so they're stuck.

That would be Gary playing the opening notes to CMTB.

Gary does play the first few notes, then Allen does a "mini solo" (I can't think of another way to describe it) of sorts, before going into the rhythm part. I was referring to that "mini solo" part.

Who's the babe in the photo? I assume that would be "Crash" as in Kenny and Crash?

Rickey seems like one of those cats you can only stand for about 15 minutes max at a time. I think it's safe to say that he is not a very good "listener". Hard to imagine what a "relationship" with this guy must be like.

No nod from Medlockey is needed. And he knows it. Just ask the RRHOF.

And Rickey will not give Allen's creation the nod as requested in this interview. Of course Rickey will not acknowledge "Freebird" he did not write it. Here are some quotes from a 2013 interview Rickey gave concerning "Freebird". Why do you think the music of Lynyrd Skynyrd appeals so much to bikers?Medlocke: Well, I think that Lynyrd Skynyrd’s music reeks of freedom. I mean, we got a “Freebird” and I think the songs speak to everybody in a different way. If people get their own meaning out of the songs, the songs are timeless. They’re going to be here a lot longer after I’m gone, that’s for sure. We feel very blessed and fortunate that it touches people in so many different ways, especially on the biker side of fans. It’s like, hey, Lynyrd Skynyrd and motorcycles, it don’t get no better than that, you know what I mean? Pop a cold one man, sit back, listen to it, then sit on your bike and blast off. When so many other bands come and go, what makes Lynyrd Skynyrd’s music so timeless?
Medlocke: I think it’s the music. Like I just said, I think the music has everything to do with it because all the songs touch people’s hearts in a certain way for themselves. I’ve heard stories about how the songs affect people and about what they mean to them, I mean, there’s tons of stories about that. It’s amazing, especially when you’re talking about songs like “Simple Man” and “Freebird” and stuff like that. People just, they freak out over it because it touches them in such an incredible way. www.motorcycle-usa.com/2013/07/article/lynyrd-skynyrd-interview-rickey-medlocke/
