As a long-time Stones fan, I am always surprised to see that many Skynyrd fans don't seem to like the Rolling Stones. The reverse certainly isn't true. But I have noticed that they do seem to like the song Gimme Shelter. So I'm offering you an unreleased live version of the song, recorded in London in September, 1973. This is a great sounding soundboard, worth the download if only for Mick Taylor's superb lead guitar work. Another underrated guitarist, something Skynyrd fans are very familiar with. www.megaupload.com/?d=GBRZ2TEA

I've always thought that Honky Tonk Woman would be a good song for LS to cover. Good groove.

I've always liked the Stones. I just get into the mood for a good groove sometimes, and Mick and the boys helps to satiate that need.
Gimme Shelter is a killer tune. I dare anyone to listen to Merry Clayton's vocal solo and not get goosebumps.

Firebird, if you've never heard the version of GS I posted, may I suggest you download it. It's live so Merry Clayton's not on there, but Mick Taylor's lead guitar and solo work will knock your socks off. It's the version that can be found on the well-known "Brussels Affair" bootleg.

Wow, bluemonday - that version had more power than the studio version. Simply amazing.
Thanks for that!

Didn't I tell ya you'd like it? I have many more really great live tracks from the early 70s. I'm leaving town for a couple of days shortly and I don't have time to upload now, but I'll post a couple when I come back.

I love absolutly LOVE Gimme Shelter...Favorite Stones song of all time...this version I didn't like so much...the band sounds great but Mick sounds like shit...I actually did like this version from last year at the 25th Anniversary of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (entire concert was epic..check it out if you haven't had the chance)

Sorry you didn't like it Jonathan. LOL. I gotta admit that he sometimes does. He started taking himself too seriously after a while. Maybe this one will be more to your liking. From the '69 tour. The sound's not the best even though it's a soundboard, but I hope you'll enjoy the guitar solo as much as I do. www.megaupload.com/?d=XU9PXY22
