A place to share photos of Artimus in and out of Skynyrd! Artimus at Greenville, SC October 19, 1977, the last performance before the plane crash. To me this is a special photo because it is Artimus last Skynyrd performance and it shows the equipment changes Artimus had put in place for this last tour. Artimus had a custom built super heavy drum riser made for him which came in two parts set side by side and attached together to make one solid drum riser. In each corner he had a hole for a solid steel pole on top of which he had installed on each pole a professional series BOSE 901 type of speaker aimed down directly at Artimus while playing. Directly behind Artimus you can clearly see an old Peavey mixing board where Artimus could mix his own monitor sound and levels. Artimus had had enough of soundmen screwing up his monitor sound. And believe me screwing it up for Artimus meant he was coming after your ass! I have seen it! When some idiot soundman sends screeching feedback into Artimus ears at full volume he will get up from those drums and literally run down the soundman in a most harsh way! So it is best that Artimus have his own sound system that he can control himself so he has no one to blame about the quality of his monitor sound and that is exactly what you see here! 4 big ole' BOSE speakers and his own mixer! Artimus told me that other Skynyrd band members would come over and lean in to hear his system because it cut through the stage volume so well.

A kick drum cover I don't think Artimus ever used. I found it in his garage and snapped this photo of it. And below is the setup shown on the drum cover above- Custer and Artimus.

Cagey and Artimus at his home in St. Augustine. I am wearing a denim vest given to Artimus during tribute tour era. Artimus is peeking over my should as someone snapped this photo. Artimus and Cagey having an indepth conversation about everything Skynyrd and then some! Photo taken by Charles Odum professional photographer outside of Artimus home in St. Augustine next to intracoastal waterway. Another photo taken by Charles Odum. This one Artimus and I are walking along the backside of the house on the patio while Charles is inside house looking out towards the water. At the time this photo was taken we did not even know our photo was being taken! Charles Odum is the professional photographer who took some photos of Skynyrd for MCA records at the Altamonte Springs Mall on October 17, 1977 3 days before the plane crash. On this day he went with me to visit with Artimus and he took some photos too.

Hey Mike! You know I do not recall exactly when they were taken, but if it helps I recall River Pyle was then about 1 year old. He was just a baby then.
So I am thinking early 2000's sometime??? Maybe late 90's.
It will take some time, but over time there will be a lot more images posted. This forum is just getting started!
Glad you are here!
You know I said these images were taken in St. Augustine but his home was technically South of St. Augustine in Cresent Beach but whoever heard of that place? St. Augustine is more recognizable and close enough...

One day I will... for now though I just found out that the booking agency Artimus is using today is using one of my House of Blues photos to promote bookings for the APB band! Too cool! But as usual, I am not given any credit for being the photographer of the photo! I could piss, bitch, and moan, but all that would happen is my photo would be replaced with something else. www.bitchinentertainment.com/book3.htmlThe image is too large to post here, so here is a link to it:

You can't blame them for using it though. It is a really nice shot of Arti.
So the APB is still going strong? For some reason I assumed it had folded since all the posted material about them seems to be several years old. Nice to know Arti's band is still around. Have the members changed over the years?

APB will be ongoing as long as Artimus is ongoing, only there is no real APB band, it is whoever he is playing with at the moment. And most definitely yes the band members have changed over the years and change from day to day and place to place. Artimus and APB on Cedar Key Island Florida.

Yep redneck and in this photo you can clearly see the grip tape Artimus wound around his drum sticks like a Roman shoe lacing, and he would wind extra around the base tip of the stick to give him something to hold onto while playing.
Notice the color of this grip tape is brown, while for the recording of OMFTR in July 1976, Artimus made up a special batch of wrapped drum sticks that had pure white grip tape on them, and if you look on the back of the album OMFTR you can see a photo of Artimus standing next to his drums with his hands full of white tape wrapped drum sticks used to record the album.
I found some of those sticks broken inside Skynyrd flight cases at Allen's westside studio in 1985. Artimus wrapped one of them up and used it on the recording "Final flight of a freebird" and I still have both of them to this day as one of my prized Skynyrd possession.
