I just watched this movie for the 3rd time tonight. I love Artie and I understand all the trauma he must have had. The movie is painful even though I know its a lot of fiction .I am still not sure why that isn't called out. The cartoonish Gary with all the stage faces and all.. really? not Gary at all. The jabs at Billy, obvious. The hippie hand shake and the whole crash scene were not true .The only people that got love were Ronnie ,Leon and Allen. The politics clear in this one.. Just sayin.

Roze is cagey posting under your name "Band Politics" is his thing he likes to talk about Nope ,all me. I have always hoped good things happen for Artie. I don't think he has been treated well. I admire him for pissing Judy off. I waited forever for the movie to come out and then the delay and finally we got it. I do understand the budget and legality issues. Artie has said some things had to be changed. The movie honestly hurts ,so he managed to make a movie that effects people like that. I am just saying that some of the things in the movie regarding the rescuers weren't true , even his own injuries . I don't know how much of that was due to trauma but nothing political there. Peoples different recollections are what they are. I do think he let his bitterness effect his portrayal of Gary and Billy is my point. I must have missed the "Band Politics" thread. lol. Please feel free to move it. In my opinion their is nothing much for me to debate about their music . I love it all pre crash. Bob or Artie ,Steve or Ed, Leon and Larry ,I still love all of them. The thing that continues to intrigue me is the tragedy itself and the dynamics/politics of the band. Thank goodness we have people like yourself and others here to clear these things up.

I thought the movie was horrible, and I don't even mean any variations of the truth. It was just horribly done and the story that was there was horribly told and portrayed. I actually feel bad that something he fought so long and hard for came out so poorly.

I thought the movie was horrible, and I don't even mean any variations of the truth. It was just horribly done and the story that was there was horribly told and portrayed. I actually feel bad that something he fought so long and hard for came out so poorly. It needed more budget, and it needed to be made by better people. Production matters. Direction and casting matter. Wherever there is a weakness, it's hard to hide it. When you have low budget and a number of weaknesses, then it becomes a matter of doing the best you can with what you got. And, the editor had his hands full!!! Maybe his pants too after that. Did an editor allow their name on it? LOL! If Judy had publicly stated that she fought it because it was being done below the standard the LS story deserved, I would have been on her side. That wasn't said, and the pattern she's shown in the past did not infer that was her reasoning. Freebird, the Movie was superior to this when you look at the extent of the restoration effort when it was done in the mid-90s, so it's possible she was concerned about quality.... I believe it was solely control issues, but that's my opinion. That being said, I don't fault Arti. He did the best he could given the limited options and resources he had, and the fact that he navigated something so foreign with no experience in that industry. The movie could have languished a few more years and the budget may have gone up, but it could have gone down too. So, he rolled the dice with an offer on the table, and it came up less than a real win.

Too bad the budget was so poor they couldn’t get a Convair. Instead, it’s a Douglas DC3, which is completely different. And they take off out of Upland CA airport to get to the next airport, only to land at it again, instead of at another airport.
