Before the Flood is a live album by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan and The Band, released on June 20, 1974, on Asylum Records in the United States and Island Records in the United Kingdom. It was Dylan's first live album, although live recordings of earlier performances would later be released. It is the 15th album by Dylan and the seventh by the Band, and documents their joint 1974 American tour. It peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, reached No. 8 on the popular album chart in the UK, and has been certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. In a contemporary review for Creem magazine, Robert Christgau felt that the Band followed Dylan in intensifying his old songs for the arena venue and stated, "Without qualification, this is the craziest and strongest rock and roll ever recorded. All analogous live albums fall flat." In a less enthusiastic review, Rolling Stone magazine's Tom Nolan said Dylan's vocal emphasis and the Band's busy arrangements make for an awkward listen, although revamped versions of songs such as "It's All Right, Ma", "Like a Rolling Stone", and "All Along the Watchtower" are successful and sound meaningful. Before the Flood was voted the sixth best album of 1974, in The Village Voice's annual Pazz & Jop critics poll.

I'm curious about how many you have this album or listen to it?
Robert above seems to think or believe this is the greatest live album of all time. I find this strange since I am unfamiliar with it largely because I am from the South and simply do not like a lot of northern music. I can't stand Bob Dylan's voice and his harmonica playing is horrid. I cannot listen to Bob Dylan plain and simple. I cringe everytime I hear his voice.
As for the Band all I really know is one song up on cripple creek and the weight and a couple others but nothing I would call strongest rock and roll ever recorded.
And all other analogous or similar albums fall flat? Ass backwards dude! This album for me already falls flat and I don't even have to listen to it to know it. I would listen to the Band's portion of this album so long as Dylan is not on it.

This is something I would not listen to. I ignore music by Bob Dylan and the Band. Bob Dylan's voice is one I do not care for.
