Bay Area rockers Journey announce tour with Billy Idol, Toto

Journey has announced dates for its Freedom Tour 2022.
The trek supports its forthcoming new album, also called “Freedom,” and includes two stops in Northern California.
These local pop-rock heroes are set to bring their platinum-plus-selling catalog — which includes such hits as “Lights,” “Any Way You Want It,” “Faithfully,” “Don’t Stop Believin’” and many, many more — to Chase Center in San Francisco on March 31 and Golden 1 Center in Sacramento on April 1.
Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. Nov. 19 at ticketmaster.com. There is also a presale for Citi credit card owners that runs 10 a.m. Nov. 16 to 10 p.m. Nov. 18 (see
www.citientertainment.com for details).
Billy Idol is the opening act Feb. 22-April 5 — which includes the Chase and Golden 1 dates — with Toto stepping into that role as of April 7.
“It’s that time — time to get back to where we are used to being — on stage,” says Journey guitarist Neal Schon. “We are looking forward to shifting into high gear and bringing you the best show possible. The band is running on all 12 cylinders and very excited.”
Of course, some fans might be wondering who is actually in the band at this point — given that there have been some significant personnel changes over the years. Notably, bassist and drummer Steve Smith were reportedly fired last year after what was described as a failed coup attempt.
The band’s current lineup is Schon, keyboardist Jonathan Cain, lead vocalist Arnel Pineda, keyboardist Jason Derlatka and drummer Deen Castronovo.
Journey has also announced a six-show Las Vegas residency, Dec. 1-11 at the Theater at Virgin Hotels.
