Forty one years ago today, beautiful day, mid-week I think? Just got out of school, beginning of my JR year in HS. Hop in my car with a buddy, first thing to do of course is find a good tune on the radio. Where I grew up, central Connecticut, we had good reception for 5 rock stations, so generally you could find something you could listen to. Whatever station was on had a Zeppelin tune playing, no need to search any further. We drive around and another Zep tune comes on the same station. We don’t think too much about it and are more about enjoying some good tunes on a weekday afternoon. We pull up to another high school in town to see some friends and park next to another car with windows down and Zeppelin cranking. Ok now we start to wonder if something is up? Just a little over a week before Zep had announced their North American tour for fall of 1980. Closest show to CT was Philadelphia so it was unlikely we would get to see them, but there was a glimmer of hope. Whatever tune was on ends and the DJ comes on “In case you haven’t already heard, John Bonham found dead early this morning in England. Bonham, the only drummer Led Zeppelin has ever had has been found dead at age 32”
