Carole King, Mary J. Blige and more: Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announces 2021 nominees The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2021 nominees for induction are in By Andrea Dresdalevia February 10, 2021, 3:19 PM After years of hearing that there aren't enough women in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, it seems the powers that be got the message. Out of the 16 artists nominated for induction this year, seven are women. Among the female first-time nominees: The Go-Go's, Dionne Warwick and Carole King as a performer (she was already inducted as a non-performer for her songwriting). Other female nominees on the ballot again this year include Chaka Khan, Kate Bush, Tina Turner and Mary J. Blige. Turner is already a Rock Hall member as half of Ike & Tina Turner. "I think The Go-Go's are probably the number-one artist that we get fan mail about right now -- people are really excited," Rock Hall vice president of education, Jason Hanley, told ABC Audio of the band's nomination. The rest of this year's nominees include first-timers like the Foo Fighters, JAY-Z, Iron Maiden, the late African superstar Fela Kuti, Devo, LL Cool J, New York Dolls, Rage Against the Machine and Todd Rundgren. "There's so many great female artists, people of color in the history of rock and roll, and so many different musical styles," noted Hanley. "I think it's great, and I think it's probably a trend we're going to see continue moving forward as well." The inductees will be announced in May and the induction ceremony will take place this fall in Cleveland, Ohio. Fans can now vote at RockHall.com for their favorites. abcnews.go.com/GMA/Culture/carole-king-mary-blige-women-rule-rock-hall/story?id=75804155

For some reason Pat Benatar was not included with all the female nominees. I am just so disappointed with this list when there are so many others that made major contributions are not in the hall of fame yet. I am on the fence about the GoGo's. They did have hits. Here is an all female band that played their own instruments, and wrote songs. Ozzy is not in. Jan and Dean is not in. Tommy James and the Shondells are not in. Inxs is not in. Dick Dale is not in. Alice in Chains is another band. The rest of this year's nominees include first-timers like the Foo Fighters, JAY-Z, Iron Maiden, the late African superstar Fela Kuti, Devo, LL Cool J, New York Dolls, Rage Against the Machine and Todd Rundgren. The way this was written up is misleading. Todd Rundgren was nominated last year.

There is so many performers that should not be in a rock n roll hall and so many that should be considered before these rap, black music, dance music, hip hop non rock n roll groups.

What the hell is wrong with RRHF? It has destroyed music genres in the name of greed and profits for their commercial business. I gave up on lists like this a long time ago. The RRHF has no legitimacy and should change its name to anything goes hall of fame.

The list is alright with some big exceptions, like what are the go-go's, and Chaka Khan, and Kate Bush on there for? It seems we ran out of stars and they've lowered the standards once again. Now you just need to be a one hit wonder aging woman. Beautful.

The GoGo's are rock and roll. They are considered to be New Wave, punk rock or pop rock. They wrote songs. In addition they played all their own instruments.
Their biggest hit in the United States, "We Got the Beat".
"Head Over Heels"

Females good. But they lowered it another way... when the RRHF began the board sat around and argued over what fame meant and it was boiled down to album sales by numbers or units sold. Today like with the Go Gos, they have sold only 7 million albums. This would not have gotten them in back in the beginning. But today the RRHF uses terms like "influence" and other methods of measuring fame besides album units sold. Won't be long before they are inducting garage bands from China.

I like all of the Lady choices but fully agree with JerseyGirl , where is Pat Benatar? I grew up listening to Maiden but on what planet do they get nominated and Ozzy isn’t? Randy Rhoda’s has long deserved to be there.

Oh, yes Randy Rhoads should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He was a very talented man. “He was the best guitarist I’d ever seen,” his friend and fellow musician Dana Strum says today. “It was Randy’s sound – along with Eddie Van Halen’s – that changed the whole way the next generation of guitar players thought about music. The ones they tried to emulate but never could. It was such a tragedy that he wasn’t able to stick around.” www.loudersound.com/features/randy-rhoads-the-guitarist-who-changed-the-world

Now you just need to be a one hit wonder aging woman. Beautiful. Yes, they have lowered those standards... today politically correct rules, so you are right about the female part. Men bad. Females good. But they lowered it another way... when the RRHF began the board sat around and argued over what fame meant and it was boiled down to album sales by numbers or units sold. But today the RRHF uses terms like "influence" and other methods of measuring fame besides album units sold. Won't be long before they are inducting garage bands from China. In my opinion the RRHF did not go by record sales in the beginning. It was artists that influenced other artists. The problem today is they are expanding the definition of what rock and roll is. Is this to be politically correct or is this to draw people in to make money? When I compare the GoGo's with Madonna the more I think about this the more I think I would prefer the GoGo's be in over Madonna the Queen of Pop. The GoGo's played their own instruments and wrote their own material. Music from the GoGo's is more rock and roll then Madonna. If Madonna had played a bunch of different instruments on her records like Paul McCartney did on his last album I would be more impressed with her. However, inducting Madonna because of her reinvention in music production, songwriting and visual presentation is not a good enough reason. Nor is hailing her an influence just because she incorporated social, political, sexual as well as religious themes into her songs. Start a Music Hall of Fame and put her in that.

We got the Beat: The GoGo's are in Here Is Your 2021 Rock Hall of Fame Class Jay-Z, Foo Fighters, Go-Go's headed to Cleveland on first try By Newser Editors and Wire Services Posted May 12, 2021 9:15 AM CDT (NEWSER) – Jay-Z, Foo Fighters, and the Go-Go's were elected Wednesday to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame their first time on the ballot, reports the AP, leading a class that also includes Tina Turner, Carole King, and Todd Rundgren. Each will be honored during an induction ceremony in Cleveland on Oct. 30 before what organizers hope is a full house of fans enjoying live music again. The hall will also welcome LL Cool J, Billy Preston, and Randy Rhoads with musical excellence awards, and honor Kraftwerk, Gil Scott-Heron, and Charley Patton as early influencers. With Jay-Z, the hall inducts a 23-time Grammy winner and the first rap artist in the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Hit songs include "Hard Knock Life," "99 Problems," and "Empire State of Mind." He's had 14 No. 1 albums to his credit. After serving as Nirvana's drummer, Dave Grohl moved to center stage with Foo Fighters, becoming one of the few modern rock bands comfortable in arenas. Their hard-hitting sound produced the hits "Best of You," "Everlong," and "Times Like These." As an all-female band that played their own instruments, the Go-Go's were a rarity in the early 1980s. Born from LA's punk scene, they had a string of hits that included "We Got the Beat," "Our Lips Are Sealed," and "Vacation." Turner, recently celebrated in an HBO documentary, is one of rock's most stirring comeback stories. After escaping an abusive relationship with husband and musical partner Ike Turner, she became a solo star in the 1980s with the world-weary "What's Love Got to Do With It," then scored other hits with "Private Dancer" and "We Don't Need Another Hero." King's life was celebrated in the Broadway musical Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. After a career writing songs for others, her 1971 album Tapestry became one of music's best-selling albums of all time. Hits include "It's Too Late," "You've Got a Friend," and "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman." A power pop pioneer, Rundgren is known for melodic hits like "Hello It's Me," "I Saw the Light," and "We Gotta Get You a Woman." With "Bang the Drum All Day," he's also responsible for the song most celebrated by hooky players. Grohl, King, and Turner bring the number of artists inducted into the Rock Hall twice to 26. Prior to King and Turner, Stevie Nicks had been the only woman with that distinction. Two new inductees—Belinda Carlisle of the Go-Go's and Pat Smear of Foo Fighters—were once members of the LA punk band the Germs before getting the jobs that led to later fame. www.newser.com/story/306067/jay-z-foo-fighters-go-gos-land-in-rock-hall-on-first-try.html?utm_source=part&utm_medium=uol&utm_campaign=rss_entertainment_img_b

I mean, Bad Company, Rare Earth, hell it took forever to get Chicago and Skynyrd in there. Mitch Rider, Paul Revere &The Raiders, so many more. Be wonderful if the old ones could get in before they’re gone. Yeah everything PC now, everyone gets their participation trophy but the ones who made R&R. Three Dog Night, I dunno maybe they’re in there already. Is Bob Seeger in? If not WTF not!

It drives me crazy that Jan and Dean did not inducted yet. Besides being a pioneer of surf music, Jan and Dean recorded styles of basic rock and roll. Jan Berry was a great music arranger and producer. Bad Company and Paul Revere & the Raiders should both be in.

I was living in Wash state at the time (63-64 I guess),and seems at that time they were bigger than The Beach Boys. One of them was hurt in an accident or medical deal so they weren’t around very long. Glad Seeger is in, guy is amazing with his writing.
