A pleasant off-shoot of my first 2 Skynyrd shows was seeing The Climax Blues Band live. While I had an album or 2 from CBB, I hadn't seen them. Opening for Skynyrd probably wasn't easy, but CBB was a spot on choice for the task and did it very well. I don't know what sort of relationship there was between the 2 bands. I've always been curious about that, but they did spend a great deal of time together.
CBB's music wasn't anything like Skynyrd's, but was high level boogie none the less. When the last notes of 'Goin' to New York' (or Goin' to St. Paul as they sang here) were fading out, the crowd had a good head of steam going and Skynyrd took full advantage of that!
If you haven't heard them (nevermind 'Couldn't Get It Right'), give 'FM Live' a listen. You won't be disappointed.

Great band. Under-rated and unfortunately not a very popular band. Another one was Pure Prairie League.

I grew up listening to the CBB album Gold Plated. I think there's a picture floating around somewhere of RVZ with CBB guitarist Pete Haycock. Unfortunately, Vocalist/saxophonist Colin Cooper passed away a few years back. I ALWAYS liked em'!
