Don henley had quite a run of Amazing lines and lyrics. there's a reason he got the master suite on the plane.
"Out on the road today, I saw a DEADHEAD sticker on a Cadillac A little voice Inside my head said, "Don't look back. You can never look back." I thought I knew what love was What did I know? Those days are gone forever I should just let them go but-
I can see you- Your brown skin shinin' in the sun You got that top pulled down and that radio on, baby And I can tell you my love for you will still be strong After the boys of summer have gone

But without googling it, trying to think of great lennon songs from 69 on I have difficulty. Even mediocre ones really. Whereas with Paul, there are many choices, from Band on the run, Uncle Albert, jet, maybe I'm amazed, even stuff that got panned like No more lonely nights is easy to listen to. And Paul had plenty of whimsical as well. But the words made since and the singing was in tune and the melody was good. OK, without googling, I can come up with these: Come Together, I Want You (She's So Heavy), Because, Across The Universe, Instant Karma, the entire "primal scream" album, Imagine, Gimme Some Truth, Jealous Guy. I'm not as familiar with his later work so I can't name any song off-hand. McCartney can get too maudlin for me. "Maybe I'm Amazed" is a great song, and the "Band on the Run" album is his post-Beatles masterpiece. But "Obladi Oblada" coming right on the heels of "Glass Onion" on the White Album makes me cringe every time. "The Long and Winding Road" is very long and very winding. "Hey Jude" puts me to sleep every time. Looks like we'll really have to agree to disagree on this one

We can agree on Hey Jude, ugggh. Nah nah nah nah nana nah nah, Hey Jude. Nah nah nah nah nana nah Hey Jude. Repeat 37 times. It is, that is, unless if it's the cover version that Wilson Pickett did with Duane Allman (in which the "Nananana's" & "Hey Jude's" were replaced by a flawless guitar solo by Duane Allman himself, accompanied by the soulful shouts and screams of Wilson Pickett's voice as well as a brass section). XD

Well the horns and brass were definitely an improvement, not sure about the screams. But it was tolerable, unlike Paul's version. Duane doesn't sound that great to me in this song, I am not sure why. He sounded "ok" but nothing special.

What would New Years Eve be without Auld Lang Syne? We would be relegated to singing Kumbayah while toasting marshmallows over an open fire. Not pretty. The origins of the song are Scottish. Did you know that? 'Cause I didn't. I want to say I like the lyrics if maybe I could understand them. When you're two, three, or even four sheets to the wind it don't matter anyway. Just hum along.Should auld acquaintance be forgot, And never brought to mind? Should auld acquaintance be forgot, And auld lang syne! For auld lang syne, my dear, For auld lang syne. We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet, For auld lang syne. And surely ye'll be your pint stowp! And surely I'll be mine! And we'll tak a cup o'kindness yet, For auld lang syne. We twa hae run about the braes, And pou'd the gowans fine; But we've wander'd mony a weary fit, Sin' auld lang syne. We twa hae paidl'd in the burn, Frae morning sun till dine; But seas between us braid hae roar'd Sin' auld lang syne. And there's a hand, my trusty fere! And gie's a hand o' thine! And we'll tak a right gude-willie waught, For auld lang syne.

That should have been in the messed up lines thread. Until now I always thought it was "OLD acquaintances be forgot" I don't know what an "auld" is? It is time for google. The way everyone knows everything about very little.

Here you go Morris:
auld
/ôld, ōld/
adjective
Scottish form of old.
Well, there it is for 'ya. I think I'll stick with the American version.

one of my favorites is a country song by Alan Jackson.. "Remember When". All of the lyrics to this song are quite beautiful, but my favorites are, "..Remember when..the sound of little feet was music we'd dance to week to week" and "..Remember when, thirty seemed so old..now looking back, it's just a stepping stone to who we are, where we've been..said we'd do it all again.." Just makes me think about my life the past 20-some years..from being in my 20's and single, then getting married and having my 1st child at 31..now watching my children become teenagers and realizing how fast time goes by and life changes.

sounds depressing. We either die young, or die old in soiled diapers smelling disinfectant in a nursing home. Then the odds are in less than 100 years nobody will remember you were here. Nobody gets out alive. Pour me another shot please.

...and yes, I WILL be remembered in 100 years. I come from a long line of people before me that value family, love, and honoring those that came before them. I am sorry if you don't know what that is like.

Not looking for a response like that. ...and yes, I WILL be remembered in 100 years. I come from a long line of people before me that value family, love, and honoring those that came before them. I am sorry if you don't know what that is like. As far as "not looking for responses like that" after your personal story, I added my personal story of how I feel about how time passes lyrics. I did not attack your viewpoint, I added mine, that's all. You don't get to choose what comments and reaction you receive after posting. its a forum for all thoughts not only agreement with you that it is wonderful how time passes watching grandchildren grow up as grandma becomes more fragile. I think time passing sucks, it is truly the ultimate despair of life. We watch every beloved pet die, usually several times over, the unlucky watches every person we love die, or the lucky ones die first and leave the grief for others..either way I am reminded of a passage in James " we are but a vapor, that appears for a short time and vanishes away". Or a more modern reference would be Kansas singing "dust in the wind". Anyway you want to stack it, our time is brutally short. Our descendants do not remember us, you can have all the family values and love in the world, and someone might know snippets of your life for 100 years, but nobody will really know who you were even in the tightest of families. Not one person will know what food you liked, or how you laughed. In 500 or 1000 years nobody will even remember your name, and 1000 years is a quick blink of time. The reality is hard to imagine but it is the reality. So Personally I don't like song Lyrics that allude to the passage of time,it is too stark a reality, and that's my opinion. It could not be interpreted as personal towards you, don't make it such by adding comments like telling me to "keep it to myself". Who are you to tell me what opinions I can express about song lyrics?

"What a drag it is getting old" -- The Rolling Stones, 1965 "Time waits for no one and it won't wait for me". -- The Rolling Stones, 1974 Please remember to always remain civil and pleasant to one another even when you disagree on something. Especially when you disagree. Please also keep in mind that all we have here are written words; we can't see the person's facial expression nor can we hear their tone of voice. So it is very easy to misunderstand someone's intent. Please let's give each other the benefit of the doubt. Thank you
