More Musicians Boycott Spotify in Support of Neil Young After Joe Rogan Bends the Knee Jeff Spicer; Bryan Bedder/Getty Images
David Ng
1 Feb 2022 The cancel mob is still baying for Joe Rogan’s head just days after the popular podcaster acquiesced to their demands by agreeing to a “content advisory” warning label and more “balance” on his show. Musicians Graham Nash, Nils Lofgren, and India Arie are the latest stars to boycott Spotify, following in the path of Neil Young who last week demanded his songs be pulled from the streaming service in what has become a media-fueled effort to censor and deplatform Rogan. While Nash and Lofgren echoed their former bandmate, who has cited “disinformation” around Rogan’s coverage of the coronavirus, Arie took a different line of attack, saying she objects to Rogan’s “language around race” while also bringing up his $100 million deal with Spotify. In a statement to Rolling Stone, Nash said he “completely agrees” with Young and “is requesting that my solo recordings be removed from the service.” Lofgren has posted a message to Young’s website in support of the boycott. “We are reaching out to the labels that own my earlier music to have it removed as well. We sincerely hope they honor our wishes, as Neil’s labels have done, his. We will do everything possible towards that end and keep you posted,” he wrote.
India Arie posted her boycott announcement on Instagram. “Neil Young opened a door that I must walk through. I believe in freedom of speech. However, I find Joe Rogan problematic for reasons other than his Covid interviews. For me, it’s also his language around race,” she wrote. On Friday, Joni Mitchell announced she was seeking to remove all of her music from Spotify in solidarity with Neil Young. “Irresponsible people are spreading lies that are costing people their lives,” Mitchell wrote a message on her website. “I stand in solidarity with Neil Young and the global scientific and medical communities on this issue.” On Sunday, Rogan responded to the growing controversy, saying in a video message that “many of the things that we thought of as ‘misinformation’ just a short while ago are now accepted as fact.” He also pledged to add more “balance” to “controversial viewpoints” presented on “The Joe Rogan Experience.”

Sold for a billion dollars? Not according to google searches...
Hipgnosis Songs Fund has purchased 50 percent of the rights to Neil Young's entire back catalog in a deal that's said to be worth $150 million, the BBC reports. There are nearly 1,200 entries in the prolific Young's cache of songs. Neil Young v. Joe Rogan: The Remedy to be Applied
By Thomas Knapp (Page 1 of 1 pages) 2 comments
"They can have Neil Young or [Joe] Rogan. Not Both." Thus the ultimatum from legendary musician Young, over his concerns with what he deems "misinformation" on the subject of COVID-19 vaccines, to streaming service Spotify. Spotify, unsurprisingly, chose Rogan. It invested an estimated $100 million in bringing the Joe Rogan Experience podcast exclusively to its platform, and that investment is likely paying off in a big way. His talk show is currently more popular, by far, than Neil Young's music (although the latter is probably enjoying a bump on other platforms and in other formats, and songs have a much longer shelf life than talk shows focusing on current events). Still, it's sad that this kind of thing is happening. Other artists are joining Young's exodus from Spotify. Fewer choices for listeners is bad for artists and bad for platforms. It seems to me that we have a much better answer for situations like this than "they can have me or they can have him, not both." "If there be time to expose through discussion the falsehood and fallacies, to avert the evil by the processes of education," Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis wrote in 1927, "the remedy to be applied is more speech, not enforced silence." Rogan is implementing the "more speech" prescription by promising "balance" between dissident and establishment views on the podcast. Rogan and his guests -- many of whom who seem well-qualified to discuss COVID-19 and vaccines even if (maybe because!) their opinions run counter to, say, Anthony Fauci's -- are already voices in the wilderness compared to the might of an establishment narrative that runs 24/7 in official government statements and on most news media. Given that the toll of government policies largely based on that establishment narrative comes to nearly 900,000 COVID-19-related deaths in the United States so far, it's hard to argue that Rogan owes "balance" to those working to silence, rather than refute, skeptics. But still, good on him for channeling Brandeis. There's a way for Rogan and Young to both be "the better man" here. Rogan should invite Young to appear on the podcast, and Young should accept. Not to have it out over COVID-19. Just to make nice, shoot the breeze about everything, and maybe smoke some cannabis together. Good times. Right now, Rogan is "the better man." I wish Neil Young hadn't taken that particular route, but this southern man still needs him around, anyhow.

These days, a musician's control over his material is tenuous at best. If I were a superstar like Neil Young, thus retaining some control, and my stuff was being associated with political opinions I didn't like, I would do the same.
Neil Young has also been critical of the audio quality of streaming services today, and tried to start his own high resolution streaming service and proprietary player ("Pono"). That didn't pan out though.
The music distribution paradigms are shifting rapidly. I believe part of the motivation behind the latest resurgence of vinyl records is for artists to have more control over their material. CD's, which are now considered deader than vinyl, can be ripped and digital files distributed indefinitely--and have only the flimsiest attempts at copy protection.
You don't consider what Young, Mitchell and others are doing to be censorship do you? I know you're smarter than that. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Submitted on Wednesday, Feb 2, 2022 at 12:37:33 PM

As a Canadian, I'm embarrassed for Young, and now Joni Mitchell. I don't know why either of them thinks it's significant in any way to make such declarations. As you noted, Spotify has made a substantial investment in Rogan's program, and it's paying off for them. The musicians' contribution to Spotify's income pales in comparison, but I guess that matters less than being counted among the politically correct and not just denizens of the California bubble.
Justice Brandeis had it right, but such wisdom is largely drowned out now. Rogan seems to get it, as does Rob Kall.

Look at how this is framed by a marxist. If you are smart this is not censorship. But if you are stupid it can be censorship. This type of comment framing is typical for the left to use to try and persuade and even intimidate with false claims. They use this tactic in every issue.
But in truth and reality this marxist is an idiot who gets it completely backwards.
What neil young and his marxist commie hippie loser buddies are doing is censorship in a country with freedom of speech.
Maxwell, you are a certified card carrying idiot who drinks too much marxist koolaid.

Very interesting JG. Explains why these mega drug companies are pushing boosters and trying to get approval to vaccinate kids. I recall reading last year a number of executives, at Pfizer I think, were almost instantly millionaires in not billionaires from the Covid vaccine. Someday it’s all going to some out. I hope they reveal Fauci’s role and his enriching himself especially.

It is interesting and hypocritical as is this next one about neil f'ing old:
Health experts respond to Neil Young stance on GMOs after anti-science hit on Joe Rogan
Young once told late night host Stephen commie Colbert that GMO foods could cause 'terrible diseases'
By Cortney O'Brien Canadian-American musician Neil Young has suggested podcast host Joe Rogan is anti-science, yet the singer has lately been accused of the same as critics dig up his history of advocating against genetically modified crops (GMOs). Young is among the outraged artists who have pushed to pull their music from Spotify in protest of Rogan and his show, "The Joe Rogan Experience," remaining on the platform. Critics have accused Rogan, who has a $100 million deal with Spotify, of COVID-19 misinformation. Several health experts, nutritionists and analyts responded to the Young and Rogan saga in light of the singer's history of speaking out against GMO foods. GMOs are derived from organisms whose genetic material has been modified in a lab using genetic engineering. Many experts have lauded their benefits, while environmentalists have often expressed concerns. Bloomberg Opinion columnist and economist Tyler Cowen, who is among those who have defended GMO foods as being perfectly safe, concluded the singer's scientific record is "far from pristine." "Yet Young’s own record in this area is far from pristine," Cowen wrote Tuesday. "For years, he has spread scientific misinformation about GMO foods." The Daily Beast's Louis Anslow recently highlighted Young's history on GMOs in a piece titled, "Neil Young's Record of Spreading Scientific Misinformation." Like Cowen, Anslow argues Young has contributed to the "anti-vaxx narrative." Cowen goes so far as to suggest Young's skeptical views on GMOs may have even led to today's distrust in the COVID vaccines. Young was so opposed to GMOs that he asserted on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" that they can cause "terrible diseases." "He was wrong about that," Fox News contributor Dr. Marc Siegel told Fox News Digital. "Neil Young is a social political songwriter, and he's often wrong," Siegel later said. But in the case of COVID-19 vaccines, Siegel said Young "is right." He noted how Young and fellow Joni Mitchell, who has also publicly scorned Rogan, are likely adamant about the vaccines because they both have struggled with polio. "They have a right to dissent based on their history of having had polio and their obvious belief in the polio vaccine," Siegel surmised, saying it was "too much of a coincidence" that the songwriters have pushed for the COVID vaccine. Registered dietitian Samantha Keller said she had "several issues" with the Young-Rogan debate, focusing on the popular podcast host. "The most important, and the only one I am addressing is, that Joe Rogan is spreading lies about COVID and vaccinations and is putting people’s lives at risk, if not actually killing them," Keller said. "This has absolutely nothing to do with GMO foods or Neil Young’s understanding of GMOs." Other health experts like Erin Kenney, MS, RD, LDN, HCP, CPT, registered dietitian and CEO of Nutrition Rewired, zoomed out of the debate between Rogan and Young to tout the benefits of GMOs. "If we are strictly speaking about science, there is very little evidence to date that GMOs negatively impact human health and generations thereafter," Kenney told Fox News Digital. "GMOs offer many benefits such as increasing the food supply and the use of fewer pesticides, which we do have research on in terms of negative health implications. As a dietitian, I do have concerns about GMOs as well as conflict of interest when research is presented and believe that foods should be labeled giving consumers a choice." Young's anti-science hit on Rogan has also prompted his critics to surface how he attacked the gay community in the middle of the AIDS epidemic by suggesting anyone can catch the disease at the grocery store and using a homophobic slur. "You go to a supermarket and you see a f----t behind the f---in’ cash register, you don’t want him to handle your potatoes," Young said in a 1985 interview with Melody Maker. CNN accused Rogan of using "horse dewormer" to treat his COVID last year after the podcast giant told listeners his doctor had prescribed him ivermectin. Rogan invited CNN chief medical correspondent Sanjay Gupta on his podcast to confront him about his network's accusations. "It's a lie," Rogan said to Gupta. "It's a lie on a news network … and it's a lie that they're conscious of. It's not a mistake. They're unfavorably framing it as veterinary medicine." Rogan asked on an earlier podcast if he should "sue CNN."

Me either! His music sucks. His voice sucks. His mind sucks. Even his science truth claims sucks! You don't hear neil saying one word about CNN's fake science. I think neil and other commies are using this as an excuse to go after non-commies like Rogan.

Neil will not give up. Neil Young Encourages Spotify Employees to Quit Over Joe Rogan
By Jeremy Frankel | Monday, 07 February 2022 09:26 PM Musician Neil Young has criticized Spotify CEO Daniel Ek and urged his employees to leave the company over Joe Rogan and what Young calls coronavirus ''misinformation'' on Rogan's podcast, ''The Joe Rogan Experience.'' ''To the workers at SPOTIFY, I say Daniel Ek is your big problem — not Joe Rogan. Ek pulls the strings. Get out of that place before it eats up your soul. The only goals stated by Ek are about numbers — not art, not creativity. You must be able to find a better place than SPOTIFY to be the home of your art,'' Young wrote on his website. Young pulled his music from the internet radio service last month after the company refused to take action against Rogan and censor his podcast. Other artists, such as Joni Mitchell, have followed suit. A group of public health officials urged Spotify to take action against Rogan in an open letter last month, accusing Rogan of having a ''concerning history of broadcasting misinformation, particularly regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.'' www.newsmax.com/newsfront/joe-rogan-neil-young-spotify-covid19/2022/02/07/id/1055889/

Ted Nugent brands Neil Young a “stoner birdbrain punk” for Spotify protest He also claimed that it's Young who is spreading misinformation about the COVID vaccine
By Will Lavin 13th February 2022 Ted Nugent has weighed in on the recent controversy surrounding Spotify and Neil Young‘s decision to pull his music from the platform. Young last month demanded that his music be removed from Spotify, asserting in a since-deleted open letter to his management that content like the Joe Rogan Experience podcast “spread false information about vaccines”. The streaming platform obliged, later confirming that Young’s content would indeed be removed from the platform. The saga drew mixed reactions from the wider music industry, while many seemed to side with Young, including Joni Mitchell who also announced she would be pulling her discography from Spotify over its conduct surrounding vaccine misinformation, as did Young’s former bandmates Crosby, Stills & Nash, comedian Stewart Lee, Crazy Horse and E Street Band guitarist Nils Lofgren, and cult alternative rockers Failure, among others. Now, controversial right-wing rocker Ted Nugent has spoken out about Young’s decision, calling the ‘Harvest Moon’ singer-songwriter “a complete punk”. Speaking on his ‘Friday Free For All’ edition of The Nightly Nuge on Friday (February 11), he said: “Well, Neil Young, God bless him. I’m sure that there’s many people that appreciate Neil Young’s creativity and his talents and his creation of wonderful music for those people who love that kind of music. I’m not a big fan. I happen to know that he’s got a lot of soul… But now that I’ve praised him for all the positives, the guy is a complete punk. “If you’ve done that much mind-altering chemicals throughout your life, then you can proudly claim in one moment that you should be rocking in the free world but then in the next moment witness all the evidence supporting everything that Joe Rogan’s been saying, that I’ve been saying, the truth, logic, common sense, the indisputable evidence to support it, and then claim that we’re guilty of misinformation when actually the stoner birdbrain punk, he delivers misinformation.” www.facebook.com/watch/?v=920718731927344Nugent continued: “So this is a funny moment because he made an ultimatum to Spotify – whatever that big tech is – and he said, ‘If you don’t take Joe Rogan off Spotify, then you have to take my music off Spotify.’ That’s a pretty easy decision, Neil. Thanks for making it so simple, because Neil Young on Spotify – adios, mofo. “Now Joni Mitchell’s doing the same thing, and, again, God bless her. I can’t stand folk music, but I know there are a lot of people that love that kind of stuff and I salute them and thank them. And I appreciate any music that makes people happy and fortifies their American Dream, or whatever dream they might have. Is there another dream? I don’t think so. The Mexican Dream is to get the hell out and go to America.” Nugent went to claim that the things Young and Mitchell are saying “are just stupid”, before adding that “with all due respect… I’m sure Joni… I’ve seen Joni Mitchell do interviews; she’s a smart gal, and her musical dreams she literally has perfected. And on behalf of those people that love that kind of music, I can only salute them and celebrate the happiness that Joni Mitchell and Neil Young’s music brought them.” The controversial rocker has been in the news a lot this past year. Last month, he labelled Bruce Springsteen “a dirtbag” for his political affiliations. He also criticised Joan Jett’s inclusion on a list of the 100 greatest guitarists, In December, he blasted the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame for inducting Grandmaster Flash, Madonna and others. Last June, he backed the baseless conspiracy theory that January’s riot at the US Capitol was sparked by Antifa and Black Lives Matter activists. In May, he then claimed that systemic racism does not exist in the US. In a video posted by he and his wife Shemane, he described “systemic racism” as a “lie”. Nugent also contracted COVID-19 in April, one week after performing maskless in Florida, and said he’s “never been so scared in all my life” as when he battled the virus. Elsewhere, Spotify has reportedly removed 70 episodes of The Joe Rogan Experience that sees the comedian using racist slurs. Following the news, Spotify CEO Daniel Ek sent a letter to company staff saying he “strongly condemns” Joe Rogan’s use of racial slurs, and that while the platform wouldn’t be severing ties with the controversial figure, they would be adding content advisories to podcast episodes which discussed COVID-19, directing users to their dedicated information hub. Joe Rogan has since addressed the furore, both on-stage and during an episode of the podcast itself. Meanwhile, Arcade Fire multi-instrumentalist Will Butler has penned an op-ed piece in which he discusses the issues surrounding Spotify and its current situation with Joe Rogan. www.nme.com/en_asia/news/music/ted-nugent-brands-neil-young-a-stoner-birdbrain-punk-for-spotify-protest-3160577

Crosby, Stills and Nash Back on Spotify After Joe Rogan Protest Corey Irwin Published: July 3, 2022 Five months after removing their music from Spotify, Crosby, Stills & Nash can once again be heard on the streaming service. According to Billboard, the group’s catalog officially returned to Spotify on Saturday (July 2). CSN will reportedly be donating “proceeds from streams to COVID-19 charities for at least a month.” Back in January, Neil Young grabbed headlines after releasing an open letter demanding Spotify remove his music from their service. “I am doing this because Spotify is spreading fake information about vaccines – potentially causing death to those who believe the disinformation being spread by them,” the rocker said at the time, taking aim at The Joe Rogan Experience, a popular podcast streamed exclusively on Spotify which routinely spread vaccine misinformation. David Crosby, Stephen Stills and Graham Nash all voiced support for their former bandmate and soon followed his lead by removing their music from the streaming giant as well. “We support Neil and we agree with him that there is dangerous disinformation being aired on Spotify’s Joe Rogan podcast,” the group declared in a joint statement on Feb. 2. “While we always value alternate points of view, knowingly spreading disinformation during this global pandemic has deadly consequences. Until real action is taken to show that a concern for humanity must be balanced with commerce, we don’t want our music — or the music we made together — to be on the same platform.” Though CSN’s music is now back on Spotify, Young’s remains absent from the service, save for a few pieces of live material and some scattered work he’s done with other artists. ultimateclassicrock.com/crosby-stills-nash-spotify/

And this folks is why the communists like Crosby, Stills, Nash, and over the hill oldie called young LOST to Spotify...
Spotify Makes Massive Profits After Standing Up To Woke Mob, Severing Its Connection with Obama The Swedish tech company and music streaming service Spotify announced a 24% annual growth in revenue after refusing to bow to the woke mob and remove controversial podcaster Joe Rogan from its platform. The platform has “182 million premium subscribers — up from 180 million in the previous quarter and 15% higher year over year, the company said in its first-quarter earnings report Wednesday. Total revenue was up 24% over last year.” The company did slightly underperform projections due to the war causing them to suspend service in Russia. They don’t seem too bothered by this though. Spotify is still happy with its growth as can be seen in this released statement: “Excluding the impact of our exit from Russia, subscriber growth exceeded expectations.” Spotify came to national prominence when Neil Young, a musician, asked for his music to be removed from Spotify in protest of Joe Rogan, a well-known podcaster who has incurred controversy by sometimes hosting guests with heterodox epidemiological views, as well as past recordings of him using racial epithets. Several other artists and podcasters followed suit. In response to this PR crisis, Spotify claimed it was “trying to balance creative expression with the safety of our users.” It then refused to take action against Joe Rogan, and eventually, Neil Young relented and let his music return. Looking back on the controversy, Spotify CEO Daniel Ek said “Of course, this is a very complicated issue, But I’m really proud of the steps that we took following the concerns raised by the medical and scientific communities.” Spotify has since added an advisory link to CDC information on COVID in the descriptions of podcasts discussing the pandemic. Joe Rogan was less measured in his reflections “It’s interesting, but my subscriptions went up massively. That’s what’s crazy. During the height of it all, I gained two million subscribers.” While Young and Rogan are staying on Spotify, one prominent couple is not. The rumors that former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama were going to leave Spotify turned out to be true, though not in the way you might think. It was recently announced that Spotify was not renewing its contract with the Obamas, largely in light of their relatively rare personal appearances on its platform.
