There are several quotes in this interview that could become threads on their own. What better way to get into the weekend than with another Rickey Medlocke interview. This is a good one especially when Rickey says that Gary asked him to join the band because he was the "closest thing to Allen" that he would probably get. Enjoy! Sad that Gary put together a clone show. Vegas does well with people impersonating Elvis so I guess Gary decided to go that route with Skynyrd. In my opinion I think the music is strong to stand on it own if it was played the way Ronnie intended it to be played. He was careful when the band was filmed so fans would see them at their best. He had them practice over and over so they would play at their best. What would you like your legacy to be? What do you want to be remembered for most?
Medlocke: Oh, I don’t know man. I guess, that’s a hard thing, I guess that I brought some joy and some happiness. As far as liking music, I gave my life to this art and to this life and I gave my whole self to it and I have never questioned that and have never second-guessed it. And I love it. And I guess I’d like to be remembered for being a musician, a musician that brought a lot of happiness and joy to people. But what did you do musically Rickey to be remembered one hundred years from today. Is it standing in for Allen Collins for over twenty years? Is it founding Blackfoot?
